Re: [WISPA] Managing Multiple Mikrotiks - User Control

2009-02-02 Thread Ian Ellison
Hello,

This doesn't help you out immediately, but I've actually been working on
web-based management software (PHP/MySQL) for quite some time that
handles this and much more (like was suggested here, its done using
freeradius). Besides controlling access to your Mikrotik routers for
management, it also has:

* Top level leads / accounts management (client details, address,
contacts, service locations, etc)
* PPPoE account management
* Dialup account management
* IP provisioning for CPE
* Real-Time SNMP/HTTP polling of Mikrotik, Canopy, CB3, Ubiquiti NS/PS
access points and client devices.
* Real-Time SNMP polling of Mikrotik routers
* Real-time comparison of provisioning data (per-AP based) to active
connections (shows you who is up, down, or is an unknown connection)
* A basic ticketing system for towers and accounts
* Hierarchical management of network assets (Towers, Routers, Access
Points, etc).
* Per-tower photo and file storage

And more.

Not fully decided, but will likely be releasing the code under GPLv3
license once I have the code cleaned up some, and some additional
features buttoned up. I'm still developing heavily on it to meet my own
desired rich-feature set. Some slightly outdated screenshots that at
least present a general idea are available here:

 First the MT will check locally for the user. If that fails, it will
 check Radius. Thus, you can have an ID on the MT to ensure some has
 access, but let Radius to the normal authenication.

Another way to get around all this is to use the MikroTik API.

Has some learning curve and requires coding but turns out a clear solution.

Thank you

Re: [WISPA] Managing Multiple Mikrotiks - User Control

2009-01-31 Thread Josh Luthman
I may give you a call on that. I am fairly well versed in Linux but
time is a problem. Can you quote me off list please?

 You could setup a simple linux box running freeradius to do this. Takes just
 a little time and the cost of the machine. Actually you could just install
 vmware on a windows workstation and install Linux with freeradius on it and
 your cost is just your time to do it. Or you can hire a consultant to get
 this setup. I would estimate that it would only take a couple of hours for
 one of my guys to do that. While at it you could also get The Dude installed
 under Wine or install a copy of Intermapper to do the monitoring and quick
 launch of winbox/ssh/web login to your cpe and devices.

 If you need help with this you could call us and Scott or me could help you
 out.

 Does anyone do this? If so what are you using for RADIUS? I have
 been wanting to do this for some time now but haven't gotten around to
 it :(

 With the Dude, you could create a map, export it which gives a XML
 file. Edit the XML to get rid of UserID and Password. Distribute the
 file to all who can see the network. They just put their own UserID and
 Password in the first time they access a router. Now they can customize
 the maps as they desire, but the core devices are already populated.

 Scott has a good idea. Combine that with the Dude and it works nice.
 Another thing to do is make the management of the devices on a
 non-routeable.

 Radius.
 You can make groups in Radius that map to groups on the routers. You
 can then make groups on the router for the specific functions you want
 the user to have.
 First the MT will check locally for the user. If that fails, it will
 check Radius. Thus, you can have an ID on the MT to ensure some has
 access, but let Radius to the normal authenication.

 Hello all

 WE have about 100 Mk units in our network, what tool is available to
 manage them effectively? We are looking in a way to manage our own
 internal access to them... Admins and techs getting into groups with
 individual pwds?

 Any ideas to a centrilized security management system for them?
