Every now and then we get a new WISPA operator in here that I know can
show us all unique ways of expanding our businesses to do more than we
do now. I am sure that today marks one of those times with our newest
addition to WISPA Principal Membership, Michael Steed of InterStar
Communications. Welcome Michael and thank you for helping support your
industry through your involvement and membership in WISPA. We look
forward to working with you to build a better industry for us all.
Here is a little about InterStar Communications in Michael's own words:
I am General Manger of InterStar Communications and we are located in
Clinton, NC. We were a privately held company started in February of
1995 by myself and 3 other guys. I was the former President of the
company. We started out providing dial up service with only 28 customers
our 1st month. We grew our business to over 15,000 customers and sold it
to a rural co-operative telephone company in Nov of 2000. Today we serve
over 12,500 customers and our services include over 4600 DSL customer,
1100 cable modem customers, 400 wireless customers and the rest are
mostly dial up. We provide fiber connection to most of the hospitals,
schools systems, government agencies, and large enterprise customer in
our core service area and provide services in about 15 counties in
eastern NC. We
began offering wireless services about 3 years ago in areas that were
not served by traditional methods. We build private wireless networks
for customers as well and have an in-house certified climbing team. Our
wireless service covers about 300 square miles in 3 counties and we
assist other co-ops and companies enter into this business. We look
forward to our association with WISPA and hope we can provide value to
