I remember when I lived in the Los Angeles area back in the early 90's and
it snowed about that much once... man it was weird...

Now I live in Colorado and it snows that much its just annoying :-)

Snow around here is usually less then 12".  Anything more then that schools
may or may not close, depending on the current superintendent (we go through
this cycle - no closings, car accidents when coming into school, new
superintendent, lots of closings).

If less then an inch took out your power someone isn't doing their job
right...

We have had 1/4" sheets of ice around everything - buildings, cars, towers,
antennas, power lines hanging a few feet lower - and the power stays on for
most of the area and everything operates as it would normally.  Except those
damn grid antennas...

I've busted through big drifts in a truck with a plow, and in my car. 
Car is more fun, as long as it's not hard or wet snow.

Wow... schools closed? Really? We usually have to get 12 inches or more 
PLUS a big wind (20-30mph) for them to close our schools here anymore. 
Honestly though, there is nothing I like more than busting fresh, 4 foot 
snow drifts with my truck on the way to work in the morning... :)
