Or how many people think they have fiber access to the Internet because they have cable. We all know the cable companies upgraded their networks to fiber a few years ago, right? What other industry would be so introspective and careful?If this were (insert name of politician, CEO, or detested talking head here), he/she/they would be shouting it from the rooftops as fact and declaring themselves some kind of winner. However, I know just what you mean... I have long ago lost track of the number of people I've talked to who do exactly this... My internet is wireless and it turns out to be just dsl w/wireless router. However, it can't be ALL of the respondents. Well, that sure reveals the disconnect between the output data re form 477 filings, though I am much more inclined to weight the end customer surveys than 477 filing numbers (which we all know are way under reported). I find that number VERY dubious, because of things like this (from that report, page 14): It is likely that a significant number of consumers do not know the details of their home Internet connections. Some, for instance, may confuse a wireless home network working off wireline broadband with a “fixed wireless provider.” Given the opportunity to pick more than one category, in conjunction with uncertainty over how they connect to the internet at home, some respondents inaccurately chose more than one category of connection type.
