Look at the APC EMU. They are like $250 or so, and has inputs for open/closed circuits and outputs for relays. RE: [WISPA] Anyone sell/setup webcams with their wireless service?
I have four BL-C30A cameras and have been totally satisfied. They are stable, never need a reboot, recover from power and severe interference themselves, get good Wi-Fi range, and have pretty good low noise imaging in low light. The nearly-180-degree motorized left-right pan and amazing up-down movement is very impressive and useful. The favor movement mode does a darn good job of keeping reasonable clarity yet near-real-time video over modest speed links. The favor clarity mode takes some bandwidth but is very good, solid VGA. It can be switched between modes and pan/tilt remotely. I have had a series of D-Link Wi-Fi cameras, now several years old, and they all had stability problems, primarily with the link, that required frequent rebooting. From my experience, I wouldn't leave one unattended and expect it to be always-on. At dusk or later, the image is strictly colored confetti. They are all in a bag on my shelf. I also have http://www.iqeye.com/ products. They are multi-megapixel cameras with amazing quality and an optional 2nd auto-switch mode for BW night use. I'm getting older but my eyes are still pretty good yet these cameras produce images at night that I couldn't see directly. The options are astounding for triggering and auto-capturing. In daylight, the images look like they were snapped with a modern digital pocket camera and with the enormous resolution you can digitally zoom in and read a license plate, for example, after the fact. It has been perfectly stable and never off line for a year now although I use it with a Buffalo bridge for wireless connectivity. The Web-based software and multi-image support is superb. . . . RE: [WISPA] Anyone sell/setup webcams with their wireless service?
Yes, Marshall, you need to be aware of the stability of the wireless links if you use a camera in that mode. Both the camera's 802.11 and the AP's need to be tested beforehand to assure that they won't get into a hangup...typical of, say, a WRT54G and a Microsoft stack, requiring reboot. Believe me, I've gone through many...many, many. And, it is unusual for a pair to recover spontaneously from unusual failure modes...from time to time, perhaps once a week or month. The Panasonic BL-C30A, mentioned earlier, has met the challenge on my use as long as you don't want super high resoluton...then, look at iQeye with a good Ethernet bridge or direct wiring. . . . how does the Microsoft stack get involved? are you saying I should pre-test my BL-C30A with dlink, zyxel, and netgear wireless routers I have setup for home users? hehe. I have used BL-C10A's outdoors in custom (read tha really ugly) boxes, home made - grey carlon enclosure with a piece of plexi screwed to the front. I've got one cam at http://bville2.cam.nearyou.net that's been up for 4 years like that :) It's outdoors via POE (breezecom poe unit powering it) and it's weathered all kinds of events in northwestern NJ including 10' of snow drifts right up to halfway up the box. fun! user: guests pass: password ( I think - might actually be guests ) -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of rabbtux rabbtux Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2007 1:06 AM To: WISPA General List Subject: Re: [WISPA] Anyone sell/setup webcams with their wireless service? how does the Microsoft stack get involved? are you saying I should pre-test my BL-C30A with dlink, zyxel, and netgear wireless routers I have setup for home users?
