DIY on the power side!
I didn't write details on the AP config:
-With the Proxim AP-4000 we use WDS or Mesh
the 5 GHz radio for uplink, the 2.4 GHz radio for Wi-Fi
-With Aruba our intention (we need to test this)
is to interconnect with an ethernet cable and AP-60 with an AP-61.
The AP-60
Got any pictures of it put together and mounted?

Very cool! So it is a home-made, DIY solar powered AP kind of a thing then.

Apple has dropped prices on their AppleTV, and we're wondering if it will end
meaning anything in the grand scheme from the WLAN support perspective. The
unit itself can get network connectivity via Ethernet or wireless (probably not

We are in the process of evaluating two vendor wireless solutions. At this
point we have take two very similar dorms and deployed one vendor solution in
each location. After performing a technical evaluation by IT staff, we
thought it might be worthwhile sending a survey to the students
We also will be doing a student wireless satisfaction survey soon. Would you
mind sharing the collection of questions asked that you collect?

We also see lots of problems with Macs being unable to obtain DHCP addresses
properly eventually ending up with a self-assigned IP address.
Attempts to engage Apple have not been helpful.

We have found that many of these are fixed by disabling IPv6 on the Airport

I'd be very glad to hear a cohesive theory (from the list, from Apple,
whoever) on why that might be.

We haven’t sent out a survey per se, but we do have a feedback form including a

Chris,
Specific to Apple, the Airport wireless service as listed in the Network panel
will occasionally become hosed. When this happens, the Mac may not get an IP
address or exhibit other odd issues on one wireless network while it is
perfectly fine on another.
The fix so to speak is to

The only real issue will be the HD content streaming depending upon the
available bandwidth for students. Also they will also need to be whitelisted in
most NAC/NPS environments.

There is a bug in 10.6 where it will under certain circumstances prefer
6-to-4 IPv6 over IPv4. Apple has fixed the problem in the 10.6.5 betas.

I haven't seen any on our campus yet. We would probably handle them similar to
game consoles and other Internet connected devices without a web browser. Not
sure if it would work on the WLAN with 802.1x, it's iOS based and the
iPhone/iPad work great. Depending on how your WLAN is setup (i.e.
In addition to the remote control issue, the box may not be able to find iTunes

If I get a chance I'll bring my ATV in from home and see how it works on campus.

Do you have any more information on this bug? Is it documented/published? My
experience is that Apple will silently 'fix' wireless issues while rarely
explaining them to IT professionals.
