off-topic: password change/reset for students

2013-05-22 Thread Ashfield, Matt (NBCC)
Good morning

Sorry for the off-topic post, as this doesn't have a whole lot to do with
wireless, although it's an issue that has come up DUE to users trying to access
our wireless network for the first time.
We use XpressConnect for self-service configuration of user devices for our
wireless network. As part of that process, students must authenticate to our
certificate server using their Active Directory (AD) credentials. The problem
we are experiencing is that many of our users never use a domain computer (they
use their personal devices which we do not put on the domain).
I'm just wondering what other institutions are using to allow for self-service
password change/resets for AD accounts. Ideally we'd have some sort of webpage
that does this. I google'd this and got a few hits for software that seems to
do it (providing multiple options: web, windows Login add-on, and even mobile
app), but was wondering what the most popular one was. I thought maybe
Microsoft FIM had this functionality, but not sure it provides the portion.
Any info/advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Matt

Westmont wrote a web page to allow users to change their credentials. It
mostly works but is a little long on the tooth and could use a facelift.

2013-05-22 Thread Matthew Ballard
We're using the Netwrix Password Manager:

For the most part we've been happy with it (although I don't usually deal with
it directly).

No, but it looks very cool. I would be curious how compatible it is with
existing wireless deployments.

Re: [WIRELESS-LAN] Wow vision veos

2013-05-22 Thread Merideth Drudge
We implemented one of these VEOS units in a classroom last fall. It's
pretty neat, but I found the emphasis on wireless to be misleading. The
unit itself does not have wireless; it connects to your network via wired
ethernet. I think the point is that wireless laptops can visit the VEOS
unit via http and download the client, and then a student or guest can then
share their screen over the projector. As long as wireless clients can get
to the IP address given to the VEOS, then there is no configuration on the
network. I hope that this helps.

Thanks,

Merideth

RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] Wow vision veos

2013-05-22 Thread Hurt,Trenton W.
So when it does the sharing of the screen to the projector did you notice any
performance hit to the existing enterprise wireless that you have deployed in
that area? If possible can you get a spectrum capture to see the rf
utilization, etc. I'm very concerned that this display mirroring could really
cause issues in some of my large classrooms where the rf is already being taxed
heavily from client usage.

Thanks
Trent
