RE: Experience with Directional External Antennas on Cisco

2021-06-03 Thread Rios, Hector J
The Cisco AIR-ANT2566P4W-R= is an excellent antenna for broad coverage. The
Cisco AIR-ANT2566D4M-R is also a good option for more focused coverage. You can
find similar antennas available at a lower cost, with relatively the same specs
and performance like
https://www.tessco.com/product/2-4-5ghz-6dbi-dual-polarized-directional-antenna-279467.
I find that between Ventev and Acceltex you can find just about any antenna
you need to meet your requirements.

If you have Ekahau, it will have a long list of supported vendor antennas with
their radiation patterns and you can drop them into a project to see what the
coverage will look like. Very useful tool.

Which directional antenna brands (patch and high density patch) do you use on
Cisco APs and what are your experiences them (good or bad) ?

(We mainly used 2802 APs until recently and have moved towards 9120 APs as our
standard AP)

Thanks a lot

I use Ventev for nearly every high density design that I complete. Dennis
Burrell at Ventev is excellent to work with and has even created a custom
antenna to enable the installation of WiFi-Enabled Light Globes here on campus.
Here are a few Ventev models that I use pretty heavily in my designs.

Ventev here:

https://ventevinfra.com/

We used a mix of different types of Ventev and Cisco ones for our sports arena
and they've all been fine. If I recall, the designer would have preferred
Ventev over the Cisco ones for a slightly smaller form factor for the same
functionality and lower price, though price wasn't a factor in that case.
