The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Services Communication 
Technologies (CommTech) is responsible for developing strategy and providing 
leadership and direction for the groups supplying design/architecture, 
installation, maintenance, operation and support for the entire University's 
campus-wide voice and data network services and infrastructure, including 
campus network connections to external partners and providers.  In 
collaboration with internal and external campus stakeholders, the Assistant 
Vice Chancellor develops and implements vision and plans the operating needs of 
CommTech, including annual and long-term plans for budget, personnel, and 
space.  Additionally, the Assistant Vice Chancellor serves as the primary 
liaison to the appropriate campus stakeholder, vendors, local government 
officials, and customer organizations.
The Assistant Vice Chancellor reports to the Vice Chancellor for Information 
Technology Services and Chief Information Officer (VC/CIO), and serves on the 
ITS Leadership Team. Under the general direction of the VC/CIO, provides 
leadership and guidance for the groups providing design/architecture, 
installation, maintenance, operation and support for the campus-wide data and 
voice network services and infrastructure, including campus network connections 
to external partners and providers.  Plans and manages finances and budgets for 
the groups consistent with campus and organizational goals.  Ensures the 
delivery of a suite of high quality network services to campus.  Provides an 
annual operating plan for CommTech, including an annual budget.  Develops and 
implements appropriate professional development and training programs for 
staff. Maintains the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities for the 
position. The position oversees a staff of approximately 50 information 
technology professionals.
The CommTech group provides around-the-clock operational support for all ITS 
networking and voice technologies, provides planning and execution support for 
deploying new networking and voice solutions and services, coordinates 
associated facilities activities such as laying cable, and coordinates with 
vendors in providing a seamless communications environment to the campus 
community. CommTech designs, supports and maintains the communication systems, 
network and telephony infrastructure for the campus. The department also charts 
new directions and capabilities for integrated telecommunications and 
high-speed networking.

The following experience is required:
* Knowledge of network and telecommunication resources, services, and 
applications appropriate for a university environment
* Ability to envision and implement exemplary applications of information 
technology to support network and telecommunication operations
* Knowledge of the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and management of 
networking, telecommunications, and computing equipment
* Knowledge of global high-performance networking developments and options.

The following experience is also preferred:
* Seven to ten years of administrative management, especially in a large 
technology organization
* In-depth computing and support experience across a broad spectrum of 
technologies in a higher education setting
* Track record of sound personnel and financial management
* Track record of excellent customer service and support
Bachelor's degree, master's preferred; supplemented with 10 or greater years of 
experience with increasingly complex leadership and management responsibilities 
in a university information technology environment.
