Thanks for reporting! The server was short of memory so it killed some
processes :( But it should be working again now.

We usually turn nodes to green/active on map.ninux.org when the
installation is complete, and the process is manual at the moment. So if
your node(s) are active, just tell us the name(s).

I tried to add a test node on old mapserver (map.ninux.org) and I got an error:
"Non è stato possibile inviare il messaggio perchè il server di posta
in uscita è temporaneamente irraggiungibile. Si prega di riprovare più
tardi. Ci scusiamo per l'inconveniente."
Creating it on the new map server (ninux.nodeshot.org) worked.

You will have to ask to a map server admin to change the color.
Usually a request mail to conta...@ninux.org is what people do for this.

ok, cool,

But how do we get our nodes on the ninux online map visible and in
green? It seems, like the entry form on the map dowe not work correctly
at http://map.ninux.org/ we already added a potential node there, but no
success.
And if we manage to enter it, how do we get the data there, so it is
shown in green?

I add that if you use gluon and FF VPN and want to call it ninux,
we are happy as well.

Hello Ruben,

I would say there is nothing like that VPN service at moment implemented in
Ninux.

Also, we usually make work to provide Internet access only in areas of
digital divide, this is not the case of the center of Venice.

I would say the best is to go with Gluon and the Freifunk VPN in Venice,
there is no problem for us. It is not like that you have to call the thing
Ninux at all cost because you are in Italy.

2016-12-21 Per discussione Ruben
since our goal is to provide internet access through the mesh network
too there, it would be good to know if there is a community in italy,
that provides that? That uses VPN exits to redirect the internet traffic?
maybe we can join that community then. For example, maybe there is a
community using gluon already?

cheers,
Ruben

Hi Ruben,

the short answer is "not really". Ninux is a community network in which
every ninux island does things the way they want, we don't have one
firmware/platform/software that we ask people to install, and we
don't really have a stated goal of sharing an Internet connection.
It's more a hacker community in which each group wants to build their
own network (for the bad and the good this implies) and help each other
to reach this goal.

So feel free to ask for help, and feel free to use any solution you
feel confident with, even gluon if that's your choice.

ciao,
leonardo.
