Re: [WISPA] Part 15 Operation in the 10500 - 10550 Mhz
Funny you bring this up. I mentioned this to Trango some time ago (after they shelved their MP product) and asked if they could develop a PtMP system in the 10GHz band. They were unaware of any Part15 spectrum in 10GHz. So, the question to all our vendors today is: Is there 50MHz Part15 spectrum available in the 10GHz band? [WISPA] Part 15 Frequency Chart
I am looking for an up to date chart with all of the unlicensed frequencies covered by part-15 rules. Re: [WISPA] Part 15 Frequency Chart
Mike, 5.4G to 5.7G is 250 MHZ of available spectrum. I do not believe there is a limit on channel size or center frequency. That would be determined by the Radio Chipset. Of course, DFS is MANDATORY, and not easy to predetermine what channels are pre-used in your target site location. Just because, the other users of the band, hop between channels from now and then. I believe there were three type usage for previous licensors. The radar deployments can be looked up on the ULS. Someone posted a more detailed explanation of this six months or so ago, on this list. It might have been Dustin. Usability of the band can be highly conditional on your antenna beamwidth, and its ability to prevent your deployment from hearing Radar. The Trango 5.4 default center channels are (5480..5720 MHz) [Ch#05] 5500 dfs [Ch#06] 5520 dfs [Ch#07] 5540 dfs [Ch#08] 5560 dfs [Ch#09] 5580 dfs [Ch#10] 5600 dfs [Ch#11] 5620 dfs [Ch#12] 5640 dfs [Ch#13] 5660 dfs [Ch#14] 5680 dfs [Ch#15] 5700 dfs Tom DeReggi RapidDSL Wireless, Inc IntAirNet- Fixed Wireless Broadband - Original Message - From: Mike Delp [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'WISPA General List' wireless@wispa.org Sent: Tuesday, September 23, 2008 11:33 AM Subject: [WISPA] Part 15 Frequency Chart I am looking for an up to date chart with all of the unlicensed frequencies covered by part-15 rules. Park Road Suite H1 Mt. Vernon, Il. 62864 WISPA and Part-15.Org Concur on use of Whitespace Spectrum Washington, DC (March 1, 2007) One of the key issues concerning commercial wireless broadband providers is how the FCC will control the unused television channels' white space to unlicensed use for broadband and wireless innovation (FCC Docket 04-186). The Wireless Internet Service Providers Association, as well as Part-15.Org, both leading representatives of the industry, have joined forces in agreement to refute claims made by the television broadcast industry that unlicensed devices operating in unused TV channels would interfere with TV reception and other licensed uses of the TV band; and second, whether the TV white space spectrum should be exclusively licensed instead of unlicensed. Both industry representatives told the Federal Communication Commission that opening this spectrum to unlicensed use will help provide more affordable and ubiquitous broadband coverage, particularly in rural areas. It will also pave the way for improved home and enterprise networking, wireless device and service innovation Both Part-15.Org and WISPA explain in their comments to the FCC that licensing is both impractical and inadvisable in this band and argue that the interference-avoidance mechanisms proposed in the FCC's original 2004 rulemaking are sufficient-along with specific technical parameters to be developed by the FCC-to protect licensed TV band users. Marlon K. Schafer, FCC Committee chairperson for WISPA, said that he is pleased both groups are working together on this important issue. An unlicensed environment will encourage entrepreneurship, and this is especially important in rural areas where major providers are not willing to expend the needed capital for a relatively few subscribers. He also said the organizations want to make sure that incumbent, licensed users of the spectrum are not harmed by unlicensed use. We want to be good stewards of the environment. Schafer said that a May, 2006 Pew Report showed more than eight million wireless broadband subscribers were in place, with that number increasing daily. We believe at least twice that are waiting for service because we have technological and physical band limitations that this spectrum could help alleviate. There are vast areas of the nation where VHF and UHF analog television signals are not received and by reusing this essentially vacant spectrum, we can help bring high-speed broadband connectivity to these waiting homes, businesses, schools and governments on a cost-effective basis, he said. Michael R. Anderson, chairman of the License Exempt Wireless Internet Service Providers Organization, Part-15.ORG, said that continuing to do business as usual regarding spectrum utilization is not in the best interest of rural Americans. He said the FCC's recent approach to open additional spectrum to license exempt broadband providers exemplifies their docket to remove common barriers that have stifled the growth of broadband for over a decade. PART-15.ORG applauds the FCC for their bold initiatives in moving forward with opening up the 'white space' for full utilization for broadband, Anderson said. Victoria, Glad to have you back. Why did you leave in the first place? However, I don't welcome the Part-15 bashing, what ever the reason. I don't know where you have been for the past 18 months, but I saw you announcing your return on the list earlier. Welcome back. Its been a while since I read a rant this well written. Kudos. There seems to be things like this and more that people have been too polite to talk about on the air that I have only picked up bits and pieces to. I would be interested in reading the whole Part15 meltdown story, once all the parts of the story have finished unraveling. If there is a URL with all of the gory details, please let me know. I have attended 2 wispcons. In 2004(or 2003?), the 200+ attendees and the 50+ exibitors made it very educational and refreshing experience. I saw new technologies and made contacts with many vendors and consultants. I talked with WISP operators who advised me on decisions I needed to make to grow my network, and it was good to see that I wasn't the only one struggling with the things I was struggling with. In 2005, the 30 or so attendees and the 6 or so vendors was kind of a disapointment to say the least. A lot more focus seemed to be on the after-hours entertainment than the business of the convention. With no-show vendors at a show like that, and no-show speakers for the sessions, I guess there isn't much else to focus on though, except the limo rides and BS like that. I suspect that once its ALL over, and there is no risk of anyone suing for slander or libel or whatever, and no bridges to burn, there will be some interesting tales to tell. Personally, I don't care about the non-profit, not for profit, or for-profit status of P15 or Part15 or whatever he is calling his group, except that IF he is claiming not-for-profit status, I think its VERY fraudulent and inappropriate to run it as a for profit venture. If he wants to CALL it a for profit and run it like that, then let it be, I say, but if a man cannot let it be known what he is trying to accomplish, and who he is going to accomplish it for, he isn't going to accomplish much. Bullit is a like-able person, with a very positive attitude. Its a shame to see what once was a very dynamic and popular group lose momentum in the face of contraversy like it has. A little dishonesty (or at least the appearance of dishonesty) can go a LONG way to turn a positive into a negative. There are many things in life that are required for success, but it doesn't take much to turn a success into a disaster. The whole P15 only deals directly with it's suppliers. line to screw you out of potentially a boatload of commissions seems like something that SOMEONE needs to talk to a lawyer about... but I don't know all of the details of what was or is in anyone's NDAs, non-compete's or contracts. If I was Nuvio, and your sales referral brought me that kind of revenue (that P15 will eventually bring in) I would certainly want to find SOME way to compensate you. But thats just me. Sorry if this post seems like a Bullit Bash, or a total dump on the Part15 folks. I certainly don't mean anyone any harm. This is a huge, complex project and structure is necessary to keep all the elements working smoothly together. Here is what Michael, Sabrina, and Claudia intend to put into place. We need *your *help in making it work. To manage transportation, finance, technical decision-making, personnel, and equipment procurement and distribution, the project needs five (5) volunteer Division Chiefs. The Division Chief positions are outlined below. If you are interested please e-mail me off-line at [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] stating which position you are interested in as well as your qualifications. Examples of experience would help us get to know you and make an informed decision. These positions are all remote and will not require your presence on-site. As we gear up they will be labor intensive and require long hours. We are also hoping to recruit individuals who will be able to contribute for an extended period of time. Each position will require a combination of independent work and team work. All positions require an ability to monitor the listserv for content relevant to your responsibilities. *Technical Coordinator* - Responsible for managing the many different technical requirements. This will include managing technology-specific coordinators who are working on pulling together / managing others in their specialty. *Chief of Transportation* - Responsible for coordinating transportation of volunteers and supplies to and from staging sites, between staging sites, and from staging sites to work sites. This includes research of possible transportation options as well finding shippers and coordinating volunteer vehicles. *Chief of Finance* - Responsible for tracking expenses and managing donated funds. Includes deciding how limited donated funds should be used. *Chief of Personnel* - Responsible for monitoring and identifying site personnel needs, recruiting appropriate personnel, and assigning personnel to roles, projects, and teams. You will work closely with Site Team Chiefs to meet site personnel needs and Chief of Transportation to help the volunteers get to their work site. *Chief of Supply* - Responsible for monitoring and identifying site equipment and supply needs, tracking inventory, and assigning equipment and supplies to sites. This requires significant coordination with Site Team Chiefs to meet site needs and with the Chief of Transportation to help get equipment and supplies to the appropriate sites. This position requires an understanding of the many types of technical items that will be used. You do not have to know how to run them all, but you do need to understand what they are. -- WISPA Wireless List: wireless@wispa.org Subscribe/Unsubscribe: http://lists.wispa.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless Archives: http://lists.wispa.org/pipermail/wireless/
[WISPA] Part-15.Org Leads WISP Industry Response to Hurricane Katrina Wireless Internet Access Relief Efforts
Part-15.Org Leads WISP Industry Response to Hurricane Katrina Wireless Internet Access Relief Efforts By now, you’re probably aware that Part-15.Org is working with the FCC to get Wireless ISPs involved in the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort. Here is some detail, current as of 9/4/2005, 4:30 PM Eastern. First and foremost, Part-15.Org isn’t “coming to the rescue”. Nor is the FCC. At the specific request of the FCC, Part-15.Org is acting as a clearinghouse for the WISP industry in advising the FCC on the collective capabilities that the WISP industry is prepared to offer – available personnel, available equipment, and various requirements. This is being done with a web page data collection, which is in turn periodically forwarded to the FCC. The most up-to-date information on the web about the Part-15.Org relief effort is posted at: http://www.part-15.org/emergencyrelief/katrina.html. This page includes links to the various information request forms. It is strongly preferred that all offerings of support of all kinds – equipment, personnel, financial be submitted via the forms. If you can offer support that needs rapid coordination and feedback (larger teams, already in transit, special capabilities), please contact: Claudia Crowley, Project Coordinator for Part-15.Org Katrina Relief, email - [EMAIL PROTECTED] “Emergency-Relief” is an established and well-used mailing list to coordinate the various efforts already underway and planned – subscribing to it is the most efficient way to be “in the loop”. The subscription URL is: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] to Emergency-Relief List Replace Volunteer with your nicknamebody=subscribe Emergency-Relief Volunteer subject=Subscribe To Emergency-Relief List You can replace Volunteer in the body with your nickname Here's a shortened version: http://tinyurl.com/boxe9 Archives for “Emergency-Relief” can be found at: http://archives.part-15.org/listarchive.asp?maillist=Emergency-Relief. A lot of the questions you probably have will be answered by browsing the archives. At the FCC, the WISP industry is only part of the picture for restoring communications in the affected areas. They’re tasked with the bigger picture of trying to help restore ALL communications – public safety two way radios, broadcasting, telephone, EVERYTHING. That the FCC recognized the WISP industry could indeed help in the relief effort, and asked for their input, is strong positive recognition of the WISP industry. The FCC is in turn providing the collected information to FEMA which is in charge of the overall recovery effort. This is a fundamental point – nothing will happen officially unless FEMA approves it. If/when FEMA accepts and approves some or all of what Part-15.Org has submitted, the selected individuals and organizations will be contacted individually. Part-15.Org is also involved in several parallel, smaller-scale efforts. One smaller-scale effort is that Part-15.Org is deploying observers to the disaster area for coordination purposes. The mission of the observers is to report back to Part-15.Org what is happening in the disaster area and what resources are needed (doing so from the perspective of an experienced WISP that understands the capabilities of WISPs). Those observations allow Part-15.Org to “fine tune” the recommendations that it is continually submitting to FCC/FEMA and the composition and role of the teams that will be dispatched. Another smaller-scale effort by Part-15.Org is to provide assistance to those WISPs that are located in or near the affected areas. They are on the ground, know the situation intimately, and are well-positioned to provide immediate, tactical support. (Yes, there is obviously some overlap between the two.) {end} --- Steve Stroh 425-939-0076 | Skype: stevestroh2 | [EMAIL PROTECTED] | http://www.stevestroh.com -- WISPA Wireless List: wireless@wispa.org Subscribe/Unsubscribe: http://lists.wispa.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless Archives: http://lists.wispa.org/pipermail/wireless/

Mark, The first task at hand is to discover what the WISP industry can offer to FEMA and the FCC to help reestablish the telecommunications infrastructure in the damaged areas. At this point there is no command central but we need to make our donations in the next few hours so that we have an idea how much we can commit to doing in the help effort. It is time to put your money, labor or ideas where you mouth is. Make your donation either to the WISPA paypal account of [EMAIL PROTECTED] or to the links posted on the WISPA or Part 15 webpages. All of these donations will be compiled and submitted with a report Michael is writing tonight and tomorrow morning. Im sure we will keep accepting donations and volunteers to help past the noon deadline tomorrow. This is only the first step towards creating a plan to rebuild. If you can help, let us know! Please tell us how the command structure of this works. Who or what needs to be offered to whom? Once you have this, please post. Thanks for your efforts. He has a time critical report to get off to FEMA and the FCC by noon tomorrow detailing how the WISP industry can help. We have decided it is best to work together to complete this task. I have posted an article on the WISPA webpage which directs the volunteer efforts to the Part-15 webpage which is already set up to accept these donations. It is my belief that all of these donations should be coordinated in one place and since Part-15 already had this list started, it was the appropriate place to do it. Hopefully, this is the first step towards mending the relationship between Part-15 and WISPA and we can work to unite the industry again. This is a major undertaking and we need help from everyone. Please donate what you can, as soon as you can. Title: Message Mark - what is the IRC channel on freenode ? There's a tremendous amount of help offered. Lots of warm bodies and some very good stuff. One of the things I'd like to address, is that there are a LOT of us with small businesses who simply haven't the $$$ to support ourselves going down there. Cisco, Nortel, and others "volunteer", but they also find themselves on the receiving end of contracts later that are often highly profitable and more than make up for thier expenses "donating" stuff to the cause. We're never going to see such a thing. What we donate, we do without any chance of recovery. That dollar we don't make because we're not answering our phone, or at the job, or that dollar we spend trying to do the mission... we'll never see again. This makes those donations, efforts, and willingness on the part of people I KNOW will feel a lot of pain over doubly more impressive. None of us will get a contract from LA, AL, MS, FEMA, or anyone else to do rebuilding. Michael seems to have what I consider a daunting task ahead of him - not one I'd step up and take on. Same with Mac, Jim Patient, and others we've seen.I'd love to donate to all of these... but my bank account has a - sign in front of the numbers. I have no money to donate. I don't even know how I'm going to survive here when I"m NOT in the disaster zone... Oh, the business bills are paid, I have my bandwidth ,and the leases are paid... I just don't know if I'll have a home in 2 months. It's that bad for a bit. But let me carpool with 2 others to foot the diesel bill, and I'll take a pickup, barrells of fuel in, and work 18 hour days. I see the pictures of these people on TV and I cannot help myself. I am so incredibly better off than them. I have hope. I know my family is safe. I have a good future. My world won't change much if I take the time and go. My business won't be hurt much, if at all, if I go. So how could I not be willing? And if I am part of one action, that enables someone to save one life... it will have all been more than worth it. I don't need or want my name in any paper, or on any list, or spoken anywhere. I just want to meet my Maker some day and hear "I was hungry and you fed me, I was sick and you came to me, I was thirsty and you gave me drink...I was dying and you helped save my life." Those of you who are and have given... you're the epitome of what's good and right in this country. You're examples to us all. God Bless...
