I don’t feel that that is an accurate statement.

It’s easy to become cynical given the rhetoric that stands for political
discourse these days, but the reality is more complex.

The commissioners all have their own personal opinions on what is best for the
country and it reflects their political leanings. The generality that the
Democrats are pro-consumer and against big business is generally true, while
the Republicans often consider big business as the way to get big things done.
Leaving either party in charge for too long leads to trouble..

The commissioners are heavily influenced by the steady stream of lawyers and
interest groups that parade through their offices. They routinely see the big
companies that can afford to be there - and it takes significant money to keep
that presence in front of the FCC. Given that the majority of what the FCC
hears comes from the big carriers it’s not surprising that they tend to echo
the big carrier message.

It’s not money to them that buys their votes - it’s money that keeps the big
company viewpoint in front of them and drowns out everything else.

That WISPA can get results without being in DC every day speaks to the
commissioners interest in hearing from organizations actually serving rural
America.

2017-12-06 Thread Jan Van Kort
I think you're dreaming about republican appointees.  The only thing
they respect is the gratuities from big-business.  Bribes used to be
illegal, maybe if we all donate to wispa, wispa could bend their ear by
donating to their favorite charity, often.

CBRS won’t be in the 2.6-2.7 band.

To answer the other question - yes, I do think we can make a
difference here.   There are 5 commissioners and the vote currently is
two against the NPRM, one for the NPRM, and two on the fence.  We only
need to sway one of the two.   When we talk to Representative and
Senators about this we have found very few who are aware of the issue.
When we discuss it with them so far all have been opposed to selling
this spectrum exclusively to the cell companies.

The social media pressure helps to get their attention.

The feedback we are getting back from DC is that certain parties
at the FCC noticed our #CBRS tags but didn’t think it was getting
much traction.  So… time to ramp it up.

CBRS won’t be in the 2.6-2.7 band.

To answer the other question - yes, I do think we can make a difference here.
There are 5 commissioners and the vote currently is two against the NPRM, one
for the NPRM, and two on the fence. We only need to sway one of the two.
When we talk to Representative and Senators about this we have found very few
who are aware of the issue. When we discuss it with them so far all have been
opposed to selling this spectrum exclusively to the cell companies.

The social media pressure helps to get their attention.

That's Citizens Band Radio Service (CB Radio). The CBRS we're all
talking about is is Citizens Broadband Radio Service (3.5 GHz Band), but
yeah they're both using the same acronym.

currently only 3.65-3.7GHz is available to use under part 90.

CBRS opens up an additional 100MHz from 3.55-3.65GHz and changes the
3.65-3.7GHz from part 90 to CBRS

The "citizens band” naming of CBRS is a poorly chosen name by the FCC and has
nothing to do with the old “trucker” CB band.

2017-12-06 Thread Jan Van Kort
CBRS? is there any wisp equipment available in the 2.6-2.7Mhz band?  Do
you really think a Verizon schill in charge of the FCC is going to give
a crap about what the citizens/tax-payers need or want?  The only thing
he might respect is a law-suit.  Protests would only help him laugh.

The feedback we are getting back from DC is that certain parties at the FCC
noticed our #CBRS tags but didn’t think it was getting much traction. So…
time to ramp it up.

Re: [WISPA] CBRS Spectrum - PLEASE DO THIS TODAY, TOMORROW, and every day next week. It's time to ACT to save CBRS spectrum

2017-12-06 Thread Matt Hoppes
Do you really think this is going to do anything though? It's very easy to post
something like this on Facebook, but I feel like it really doesn't have any
actual affect.

Kind of like some of the protesters we've seen in recent months and years where
you have to ask yourself it's great that you have an opinion but is your
protest really doing anything.

Re: [WISPA] CBRS

2017-04-14 Thread Richard Bernhardt
We have made abundantly clear to the F.C.C. and staff as well as through
WinnForum that the appearance of uncertainty to industry (service provider,
manufacturer, SAS, etc.) can result in a heavily delayed or
deferred investment in the Band. In addition, changing the rules if not
well considered can have a domino effect. For example, changing license
periods for PAL's to too long or with too many renewals; or expanding the
coverage area without regard to the type of areas (rural, suburban, urban);
or making the effective cost of the PAL prohibitive to smaller users will
greatly change the purpose, use and benefits of CBRS. We have also
enunciated that this Band is good for a wide-range of uses and technologies
and that preservation of diversity is essential AND preservation of the
three-tier access must also be maintained. Some tweeks to the rules may be
good and provide a clearer path; but the F.C.C. should avoid rule changes
that favor one tier or use-case, or technology.

Nothing like moving the goal post in the middle of the game. As if there
isn't already enough regulatory uncertainty. Thanks FCC @_@
