Re: [WISPA] Clear
Interesting. They are installing equipment on towers in our area (after having leases for 4+ years) but I'm not seeing Orlando as a current or future area. Actually I'm not seeing future areas (just in the legend). Maybe I have the wrong map. http://www.clear.com/coverage Dylan -Original Message- From: wireless-boun...@wispa.org [mailto:wireless-boun...@wispa.org] On Behalf Of Mike Hammett Sent: Tuesday, February 23, 2010 11:20 PM To: wireless@wispa.org Subject: [WISPA] Clear In looking at Clear's web site, they have a green for areas that are covered now and a dark grey for future coverage. They've met with our datacenter folks and been on the roof numerous times. To me, that says they're getting ready to make some sort of move. They have to do something. If they don't start adding customers soon their first mover advantage is going to be lost. -Matt On Feb 24, 2010, at 9:03 AM, Jayson Baker wrote: They've met with our datacenter folks and been on the roof numerous times. More interesting is that they don't even have us on their coverage map although they are already deployed here, maybe they will pull out, wouldn't that be nice! Re: [WISPA] Clear
Clear focuses on 20K+ populations. They will not announce availability until they are fully commissioned. They will also not allow for new accounts while they are converting from the old clearwire system to the new clear system *(wimax?). ryan On Wed, Feb 24, 2010 at 8:35 AM, Forbes Mercy forbes.me...@wabroadband.comwrote: More interesting is that they don't even have us on their coverage map although they are already deployed here, maybe they will pull out, wouldn't that be nice! *This was in Wireless Week today, I've watched this reporter's news on Clearwire and she has never written one disparaging thing about them, obviously an avid fan of Clear.* Clearwire Posts Narrowing Losses, Soaring Net Adds Posted In: Economy http://www.wirelessweek.com/tags/Business/Economy | Clearwire http://www.wirelessweek.com/tags/Carriers-and-Vendors/Clearwire | Wireless Networks http://www.wirelessweek.com/tags/Technology/Wireless-Networks | FirstNews http://www.wirelessweek.com/tags/Features/FirstNews By Maisie Ramsay Wednesday, February 24, 201 mailto:?subject=Clearwire%20Posts%20Narrowing%20Losses%2C%20Soaring%20Net%20Adds%20%7C%20Wireless%20Weekbody=Check%20out%20this%20article%20on%20Wireless%20Week%3A%20http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wirelessweek.com%2FNews%2F2010%2F02%2FBusiness-Clearwire-Losses-Soaring-Net-Adds-Economy%2F javascript:window.print(); If Clearwire's fourth-quarter results are any indication, things seem to be turning around for the mobile WiMAX company. Clearwire's net adds hit 87,000 in its fourth quarter, more than it added during its entire 2008 fiscal year. The fourth-quarter increase included the addition of about 90,000 net new retail subscribers in the company's mobile WiMAX markets, which were partially offset by slight declines in its domestic and international legacy markets.* * Clearwire's subscriber base is comprised of 46,000 wholesale customers and 642,000 retail customers, bringing its total customer base to 688,000. The company's net adds weren't the only thing to increase. Sales were also on the rise, hitting $79.9 million in the fourth quarter compared to $20.49 million last year. The sales increase helped to offset the company's heavy spending on its network build, narrowing its losses to $98.73 million from $118.02 million last year. Clearwire CEO Bill Morrow was optimistic about the company's wholesale services, whose customers include investors Sprint, Comcast and Time Warner Cable. He also expects the company's network expansion to triple its 4G subscriber levels over the next year. Clearwire plans to cover 120 million people by the end of 2010, up from 44.7 million by the end of 2009. Retail ARPU, currently at $39.86, is expected to remain flat in 2010.The company expects to spend between $2.8 billion and $3.2 billion to build out its mobile WiMAX over the next year.
