The fixed cameras were about $30/ea. The composite to IP box was about $50.
The alarm system was about $200 when we put it in 5 years ago.
Yeah, the PTZ was about $2000 for a good one, great zoom, enclosure w/ fan
and heat. But the news uses it as a weathercam, so we got them to foot the
bill - and we provide the IP.

hunting down and killing someone who steals or destroys your property
at a remote location and is not threatening your life.
Not planning on hunting them down... objective is to capture and hold.

And this statement...
 A

against property should be handled by the local law enforcement
authorities.

...is a matter of political philosophy and personal opinion, not law.

I've been bugerlized. The cops did nothing... I checked every pawn and
consignment shop in 50 miles... found my stuff... got the perp's ID
and prints and gave them to the prosecuting attorney myself.

At any rate, discussions about killing are off-topic for this list. I'd
suggest that we all get back to work and stop bragging about killing
people.

What bragging?

I was in a hurry and used the term felony loosely. Sorry about that.

I may defend my property against imminent destruction, i.e. someone
trying to burn it down, knock it down... ect.

If I shot a kid with a spray paint can, I'd have a problem in court.
But if I shot a guy using a bulldozer to try and knock my house down,
I'd be clear.

Is it really worth the confrontation over a tower? Maybe if you could

Re: [WISPA] Fw: [TowerTalk] Tower Vandalism

2009-09-07 Thread Jack Unger

There's a difference between killing someone who shows you a weapon and
threatens your life versus someone who commits a felony on some remote
property. Hardly anyone (or any state) would deny you the ability to
use lethal force to defend your life. That's a lot different from
hunting down and killing someone who steals or destroys your property
at a remote location and is not threatening your life. A remote crime
against property should be handled by the local law enforcement
authorities.

At any rate, discussions about killing are off-topic for this list. I'd
suggest that we all get back to work and stop bragging about killing
people.

That's called self defense and has nothing to do with showing up while

. stop bragging about killing people.

What a dopy comment. I haven't gathered anyone has bragged about killing
someone. We get your stance Jack, so bottle it and stop trying to get the
last word in and then suggest we all get back to work.

FORT WORTH - An employee of a south-side roofing business shot a man he
thought was a burglar late Wednesday, police said. The wounded man was in
serious condition at John Peter Smith Hospital on Thursday, officials say.
Officers went to Lon Smith Roofing, 904 E. Waggoman St., about 11:30 p.m. to
investigate a report of a shooting, Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman,
wrote in a news release. A company employee told them that he had responded
to an alarm, and when he arrived, he saw a man coming out of the business
with some stolen property, Criado wrote. The employee warned the man that
he had a weapon and ordered him to stop, Criado wrote. The suspect
reportedly charged the employee. The employee shot the suspect with one shot
from a .38-caliber handgun, Criado wrote. The employee had a permit to
carry a concealed weapon, and the case was under investigation Thursday,
Criado said. It will be presented to a Tarrant County grand jury, which will
determine whether it should go to trial. - Bill Miller
http://www.star-telegram.com/metro_news/story/1565735.html

Stories like this one are unfortunately common place around the country, but
in some ways necessary. The more times people like this are stopped the
less likely they will think to try it again at your place of business or
home. From all preliminary accounts this employee is a hero and has been
treated as such.

Regardless of where you live it is impossible for law enforcement to be
everywhere at all times. This in part why our founding fathers wrote the
Second Amendment and why it is important to all law abiding citizens.

There's a difference between killing someone who shows you a weapon and
threatens your life versus someone who commits a felony on some remote
property. Hardly anyone (or any state) would deny you the ability to use
lethal force to defend your life. That's a lot different from hunting down
and killing someone who steals or destroys your property at a remote
location and is not threatening your life. A remote crime against property
should be handled by the local law enforcement authorities.

At any rate, discussions about killing are off-topic for this list. I'd
suggest that we all get back to work and stop bragging about killing people.

So I'm curious what one would do if you saw someone there to "take
down" your tower? Are you really going to drive there and confront
someone that doesn't give a crap about doing illegal activities?

Yeah, the PTZ was about $2000 for a good one, great zoom, enclosure w/ fan

Re: [WISPA] Fw: [TowerTalk] Tower Vandalism

2009-09-05 Thread Scott Carullo

Depending on the circumstances, I might have to shoot them...

The use of deadly force introduces
the element of preventing a crime
against the person or property or
preventing someone from fleeing
after committing specific crimes.
The statutes distinguish some
crimes being committed at night.
The following list contains a brief
statutory definition of the crimes
taken from the TPC when deadly
force may be used to prevent their
imminent commission:
·
Arson-starting a fire or caus-
ing an explosion with the
intent to destroy or damage
vegetation, fence, structure,
open-space land, building,
habitat or vehicle. Exceptions
and defenses are enumerated
in Section 28.02.
·
Burglary-entering a habitation
or building not open to the
public or remaining concealed
in a habitation or building with
the intent to commit or at-
tempt to commit a felony or
theft. Section 30.02 elaborates
on the exceptions and quali-
fication of burglary. A habita-
tion is a structure or vehicle
adapted for overnight accom-
modations (Section 30.01). A
building is any enclosed struc-
ture intended for use or occu-
pation as a habitation or for
trade, manufacture, ornament
or use. A felony is any offense
so designated by law or pun-
ishable by death or confine-
ment in the penitentiary (Sec-
tion 1.07[23]).
·
Robbery-knowingly, intention-
ally or recklessly causing bodily
injury or knowingly or inten-
tionally threatening or placing
another in fear of imminent
bodily injury while committing
a theft (Section 29.02).
·
Aggravated robbery-causing
serious bodily injury or using
or exhibiting a deadly weapon
while committing a robbery.
Special rules apply to robbery
of a disabled person or some-
one 65 years or older (Section
29.03).
·
Theft-appropriating unlawfully
the property of another with
the intent to deprive the owner
of the property. The appropria-
tion is unlawful when the
owner has not consented or
when the property is known to
have been stolen. Section 31.03
contains several pages describ-
ing and defining theft. Consent
is defined in Section 1.07(11)
as assent in fact, whether
express or apparent.
·
Criminal mischief-knowingly
or intentionally damaging or
destroying, tampering with or
marking, inscribing slogans,
drawing or painting on tangible
property of another (Section
28.03).
The list of crimes when deadly
force may by used to prevent the
culprit from fleeing with the prop-
erty immediately after the commis-
sion is quite similar to the one just
given. The only difference is that
arson and criminal mischief are
dropped.
The third and final qualification
for the use of deadly force is the
property owner's reasonable belief
that the land or personalty can not
be protected by any other means.
Or, the property owner reasonably
believes that if deadly force is not
used, the property owner or some-
one else will be exposed to a
substantial risk of death or serious
injury.

I don't know, you should never talk about a willingness to shoot
someone. A good lawyer will find your E-mail on the Internet and use
that against you.
If you do shoot someone be sure you do it right so they die...

2009-09-04 Thread Tom Sharples
Yes, it's what I do for a living :-)

Good quality megapixel cams wirelessly backhauled cost $$, but even the most
elaborate system would have been far less than the $25K reward the owners
are now offering. An ounce of prevention ... etc...etc.

Re: [WISPA] Fw: [TowerTalk] Tower Vandalism

2009-09-04 Thread Jayson Baker
The fixed cameras were about $30/ea. The composite to IP box was about $50.
The alarm system was about $200 when we put it in 5 years ago.
Yeah, the PTZ was about $2000 for a good one, great zoom, enclosure w/ fan
and heat. But the news uses it as a weathercam, so we got them to foot the
bill - and we provide the IP.
