Re: [WISPA] Semi-OT: Mobile phone platform questions

2010-02-03 Thread Brad Belton
I used to remote desktop from my Sprint Touch phone (and earlier models
too). However, a year or more ago I saw one of the guys here running remote
desktop on his iPhone and was blown away how much better it worked than my
HTC Touch. I punted the Touch for an iPhone and couldn't be happier with
everything across the board. The iPhone is hands down the best phone I've
ever had...and it isn't even the newer S model.

There are two iPhone apps that I downloaded to run RDC a year or more ago.
There may be more today. WinAdmin RDP. I forget which was free or maybe
neither was free, but I prefer WinAdmin over RDP on the iPhone.

Best,

Brad

WM6 has a kludgey implementation of VPN that I never could get to
work. The RD works well enough but is still limited.

iPhone does VPN quite easily and there are more than a few RD apps
that work well.

I'm guessing android probably does both well.

Re: [WISPA] Semi-OT: Mobile phone platform questions

2010-02-03 Thread Marco Coelho
I've used both the Nokia N900 (linux based - Maemo), and a cracked
iPhone (BSD based). Here's my quick take:

They will both get you there, the keyboard on the N900 is a nice thing to have.
You can get both working with an external bluetooth keyboard. It's
harder on the iphone
It's harder to compile your own programs for the iPhone than the N900.

Accessories (case, belt clip) are still really thin for the N900 since
the phone was just released.
The N900 is not as polished a user interface as the iPhone.

All said, when I've got NX client working on my N900 I will switch.
The keyboard is that important if you are really managing your network
with it. 30 min vs 10 min to perform one system change while on the
road.
