2005-08-31 Thread Marlon K. Schafer (509) 982-2181

Yikes guys!

Let me know if there's something I can do. I'm not ready to ship gear that
you may or may not need, nor am I ready to send money that'll go places I
may not want it to go. Send me something specific and I'll see what I can
come up with.

Good luck and God speed.

Sorry for not elaborating - The Feds called for anyone with an aluminum
flat and motor to assist in rescue efforts (the aluminum flats will be
used to remove the floating corpse of any dead human or animal they come
across) the Fed / Coast Guard / National Guard resources will be used
for the actual rescue efforts - They are trying to prevent the
outbreak of disease / plague / etc.

What happens when Grass / Weeds / Plants are under water is - after day
1 - they start to rot (we go float fishing here a lot after heavy rains)
When this happens - all of the oxygen is eliminated from the water -
Fish / frogs / anything amphibious starts to die..

What will happen is if we come across survivors - we will radio in their
coords to a cental location - drop off water / food and then move on to
our hunt for the dead. This is really fuckin depressing - pardon my
french, but needs to be done. They are expecting it to take atleast 2
months AFTER the water starts to recede to pump off the water around New
Orleans and surrounding areas. There will be NO FIX for the levees being
breached or broken unfortunately - but they will make a last ditch
effort. Regardless of what the MEDIA is saying - and being told - New
Orleans is experiencing the Fish Bowl effect that everyone hoped
wouldn't happen - The Dodged the bullet was a false statement and
anyone who has absolutely any clue realizes just how tragic this will
end up being In the long run. To put it simply - a MAJOR city in the US
has just been wiped off of the map completely...

Matt - unfortunately - within 3-4 days there will be nothing but
Military/Coast Guard/Red Cross /Disease prevention crews and Federal
agencies.

I am leaving tomorrow afternoon - I have 20+ Friends that have been
asked to go remove bodies. I will be out of touch for 3-5 days and
will report to the list once we get back..

Is there any way some of us other WISPs can show up with some
infrastructure and save the day? Could be a good opportunity to help
some people and do some good marketing WISPs at the same time.

Who cares what they "say"?

I'm wondering if there's some way we c ould get
FEMA to fund a group of us going down there and basically putting in an
infrastructure so that communication is possible. We could have lots
of data and VOIP capability real fast, compared to the telcos.
