On my various MacOS/OS X system Wireshark will intermittently crash when
changing config profiles. Immediately after starting Wireshark I often change
to a different config profile before starting a live capture or opening and
existing capture file. Sometimes after selecting the new config profile
Wireshark crashes with a "Segmentation fault: 11".

The crash report below was triggered from recent automated buildbot image:

Bonjour Nicolas,

Do you have push a patch somewhere ?

you can use value_string (there is already this case on packet-ieee80211.c)

Try using proto_tree_add_uint() rather than proto_tree_add_item(), and just use
the extracted value + 1 as the value added. Yes, that means that 010 will show
up as "3", but that's what it represents.

Also, remember to fill in the appropriate parts of phdr in
dissect_peekremote_new().

2018-02-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.wireshark.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=14452

As per above screenshot, I have a candidate fix working great for the 80mhz and
short preamble.
However for the sptial stream, I would need to do a "+1" on the description of
the field. bits 010 mean "3 spatial streams" because bits 000 are actually "1
spatial stream".

I've created structure static header_field_info
hfi_peekremote_extflags_spatialstreams THIS_HF_INIT =
  { "Spatial streams", "peekremote.extflags.spatialstreams", FT_UINT32,
BASE_DEC, NULL,
EXT_FLAG_SPATIALSTREAMS, NULL, HFILL };

but I haven't figured out how to always display "+1" in the value displayed in
description.

[Wireshark-bugs] [Bug 14452] New: PEEKREMOTE dissector lacks 80mhz support, short preamble support and spatial streams encoding

2018-02-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.wireshark.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=14452

Bug ID: 14452
Summary: PEEKREMOTE dissector lacks 80mhz support, short
preamble support and spatial streams encoding
   Product: Wireshark
   Version: 2.4.4
  Hardware: x86
OS: macOS 10.12
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: Major
  Priority: Low
 Component: Dissection engine (libwireshark)
  Assignee: bugzilla-ad...@wireshark.org
  Reporter: ndarc...@cisco.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Build Information:
Version 2.4.4 (v2.4.4-0-g90a7be1)
--
This is actually a follow up to Bug 14136 .
I clarified with Cisco developers what bits in the peekremote header were used
for :
-80mhz channel
-Short preamble
-Spatial streams count

from devs :
[*01/11/2018 18:00:20.4222] chatter: ph header dump

<- short preamble encoded to 10th bit of
dot11_ht_vht_flags. [*01/11/2018 18:00:20.4224] chatter:

[*01/09/2018 23:30:38.2620] chatter: dot11_ht_vht_flags=0x8bc8
<---80MHz info encoded to 9th bit of dot11_ht_vht_flags.

For spatial streams :
"The spatial streams information is already encoded to 16:15:14 bits of
dot11_ht_vht_flags. The following are the bit pattern representation,

000 - 1 spatial stream
001 - 2 spatial streams
010 - 3 spatial streams
and goes on..."

This was learned in Cisco bug CSCvf10811 notes.
