I've just finished the initial version of a Wireshark welcome page.
I agree it's an excellent idea.
Files: Open a file
Isn't the term Open Recent (seen in r25109) below Open a previously captured
file redundant?

:/usr/share/pibs to ~/.smirc and modifying
epan/oids.c to call smiInit(wireshark) rather than smiInit(NULL) (see
the smi_config(3) manual page) fixes things for me (tshark -v now runs
without warnings). YMMV.

be another way. Just not sure which.
There's also still the problem that wireshark needs to find out where
COPS-PR-SPPI et al. are actually located. Is this possible with libsmi?
Just blindly adding /usr/share/pibs (no matter how) doesn't feel right.

get libsmi into the picture
Shouldn't the default for --with-net-snmp be changed from ifavailable
to no now? There's more cleanup required, of course, but that'd be a
start.

Given the fact that I'll had to get my hands into the COPS dissector
(to have it using the new oids infrastructure so we can finally drop
net-snmp) and I've never seen a packet of this
the output of perl
-MExtUtils::Embed -e ccopts on your system?

like OpenSSH's sshd or Postfix where a dedicated low privilege
user makes perfect sense, of course.
I very much applaud the general sentiment of not having people running
wireshark as root, however.
That's for sure.

it automatically (e.g.

be committed. A prefix of /usr is perfectly
reasonable for a (public) wireshark rpm package per most RPM Packaging
Guidelines, no matter if it matches the default configure prefix or not.

Net-SNMP only installs what it implements, so I'm not sure why your
binary Windows package contains TUNNEL-MIB at all. I'd suggest to drop it.

Yep, that did the trick. Please commit.
