[WiX-users] Dialog templates?

2012-02-27 Thread victorwhiskey
Hi,

I've done some searching (Googling) and searching in this forum, but
haven't found much help. I was wondering if there's a way to create dialog
templates? I'd like to have my dialogs use certain font size and color or
all dialogs that MAY come up. Many times I would have to create a dialog
just to change the font size and/or color.

So is there a way I can define the font size and color for
title/subtitle/description...? and have all dialogs use that?

Thanks!

I'd suggest that your boss talk to his own retained or internal counsel.
It's prima facie case to me that the license of a compiler doesn't transfer
to the built object code format of your IP. However, I'm not in the
business, nor do I imagine the WiX team is in the business, of giving legal
advice.

Then again, it might be time for a new boss also. :-)

I am not a lawyer so my comments cannot provide you legal advice but my
legally uneducated understanding of the license is that the output of the
tools is not OSS.

Our *intention* is that if you change the code in our repository, that
needs to be released (back to us hopefully). If you create your own code,
that's yours.

Re: [WiX-users] Concurrent Installations and Custom Actions

2012-02-27 Thread John Cooper
You'd be way better off using a chainer. That being said, you're probably
going to have to conditional the second install on the install states of a
feature(s) or component(s) and create your own Installed_Second property to
effectively mimic the behavior of Installed.

You're going to hate yourself though when you try to update or patch things.

Subject: [WiX-users] Concurrent Installations and Custom Actions

Contrary to norm, I have implemented a concurrent installation scenario where
one second install, user will go through my custom install dialogs. One last
leg, I present them with Install button, which simulates what
VerifyReadyDlg dialog's custom install option would do.

Control Id=Install Type=PushButton ElevationShield=yes
X=212 Y=243 Width=80 Height=17 Default=yes Hidden=yes
Disabled=yes Text=!(loc.VerifyReadyDlgInstall)
Condition Action=showNOT Installed AND
ALLUSERS/Condition
Condition Action=enableNOT Installed/Condition
Condition Action=defaultNOT Installed/Condition
Publish Event=EndDialog
Value=Return![CDATA[OutOfDiskSpace  1]]/Publish
Publish Event=SpawnDialog
Value=OutOfRbDiskDlgOutOfDiskSpace = 1 AND OutOfNoRbDiskSpace = 0 AND
(PROMPTROLLBACKCOST=P OR NOT PROMPTROLLBACKCOST)/Publish
Publish Event=EndDialog Value=ReturnOutOfDiskSpace =
1 AND OutOfNoRbDiskSpace = 0 AND PROMPTROLLBACKCOST=D/Publish
Publish Event=EnableRollback
Value=FalseOutOfDiskSpace = 1 AND OutOfNoRbDiskSpace = 0 AND
PROMPTROLLBACKCOST=D/Publish
Publish Event=SpawnDialog
Value=OutOfDiskDlg(OutOfDiskSpace = 1 AND OutOfNoRbDiskSpace = 1) OR
(OutOfDiskSpace = 1 AND PROMPTROLLBACKCOST=F)/Publish
/Control

This works fine, what works backwards for me now is that my CUSTOM ACTIONS for
INSTALL don't work on 2nd Install, because they are coded to run when NOT
Installed.
Also my Custom Actions for UNINSTALL only are now running on 2nd install
onwards because they are coded to run when product is INSTALLED. Here is how
I have put logic to run custom actions.

Any pointer to tweak this final thing would be greatly appreciated. What would
do the trick for me would be to a pointer that would tell me, if there is
alternate terminology for following two:

InstallExecuteSequence
  Custom Action =SetCustomActionDataValue Before=InstallFinalizeNOT
Installed /Custom --This should run every time except on UNINSTALL through /X
cmdline or Add Remove Program's 'Remove' option.
  Custom Action=CustomAction1id After=SetCustomActionDataValueNOT
Installed /Custom
/InstallExecuteSequence

InstallExecuteSequence
  Custom Action =UninstallOnly Before=InstallFinalize /
  Custom Action=UninstallOnlyCA After=UninstallOnly   Installed
/Custom -- Here is where I want the Uninstall to work only when someone is
explicitly uninstalling using /X or Add Remove programs Remove option.
/InstallExecuteSequence

[WiX-users] Burn command line parameters

2012-02-27 Thread David L. Beckwith
I think I understand that standard command line parameters that MSI support
are automatically passed to each package in the bootstrap application. And
it sounds like others can be passed but I need to specifically add it to the
MsiProperty. However, I'm not clear how to do this.

Here is my example; I have an MSI that I don't want installed on Windows 8.
It thus checks VersionNT to prevent it. However, if I include WIN8=1 as an
MSI command line, I allow it to override this check.

Now, how do I get this from a bootstrap command parameter to the MSI?

I would assume the command line of:

MyBA.exe WIN8=1

and

MsiProperty Name=WIN8 Value=

How do I get it into Value?

Hi.

On Windows 7 64 bits version I have encountered a problem with our software.
I've used the MSCOMCT2.MSM for quite a number of years. It contains version
6.0.88.4 of the MSCOMCT2.OCX. At a customer pc with Win 7 64 bit, they have
installed a program which replace the OCX with a new version- 6.1.98.16. If we
install our software after the other program it just replace the MSCOMCT2.OCX
with the one from the MSM-file. I have been searching for a newer version of
the MSCOMCT2.MSM but can't find it.

Does anyone have any experience or tips on how to solve this problem?

I had hope to find a new version of the MSCOMCT2.MSM file because then I could
just replace the old one, but

Thanks in advance.

Subject: [WiX-users] Windows Installer and Process Environment Block

I am working on an installation sequencer. The heart of the sequencer is a
Windows system service that launches the install processes (typically
msiexec) as they come in.

The sequencer service is grabbing the environment block of the logged on
user (this has been verified) and passing this block to CreateProcess(). In
addition, any variable expansion on the command is expanded based on the
currently logged on user.

I see an issue where installation packages that target the user profile
paths (AppData, etc.) ends up in the systemprofile instead. If the
installation package is run by hand outside of the service, the files,
etc. end up where they are supposed to which is in the currently logged on
user's profile paths.

How does Windows Installer determine the user profile / environment block
when msiexec is executed? It apparently is not inheriting
the environment from my sequencer service process, otherwise the profile
data would end up in the right spot.

Thank you.

Of course, any use of a WiX extension or Burn includes code licensed

 How do I get it into Value?
The command line is passed to the BA in the command
(BOOTSTRAPPER_COMMAND.wzCommandLine in C++).

[WiX-users] General Installer question

2012-02-27 Thread victorwhiskey
What's the opinion on leaving files/directories behind on uninstall?
Applications write files/directories the installer doesn't know about,
especially user specific ones. But the installer doesn't know about the
files/directories created.

What's the best way to go about cleaning them? Enumerating through all users
could be a lot...?

Thanks
