[WiX-users] Feature Conditional Install

2008-04-07 Thread Craig0ss

Hi there

I have 3 Features in my install, System, Server and Client. The system
feature is installed with both and server and client and is always present.
Now i have a dialog with 2 button, server and client, now when i click
client i only want the client feature installed and when i click the server
button i only want the server feature installed.

So far i have put conditions on the featurs like this

Server Feature =

  CLIENTINSTALL

Client Feature =

  SERVERINSTALL

Now on the buttons that select either the client or server isntall i have a
publish that sets the clientinstall property, like this on the client
install button

can anyone make any sense of this and help me out, i can get it so one of
the feature installs correctly but the other is always installed no matter
what, so i need to somehow disable and enable the istall on each button
making them oposite depending on which button is pressed.

Thanks Craig

[WiX-users] Upgrading

2007-11-05 Thread Craig0ss

Hi guys

Ive read alot of other posts regarding upgrading but ive yet to find any
information relavent to my situation, so if anyone knows of any threads and
have the links to them then please post. Here is what i want to do

I need my MSI to check for an existing install of the software ie. 5.2.1,
now it does this fine, however i also need it to check for the existing
directory and then pass that information to a variable that the installer
then sets the installer to install to. Basically i need the upgrade to
install to the directory that the previous installation resides in?

Any ideas

Thanks

[WiX-users] Setup has detected that the publisher of file 'C:\Users\Craig0ss\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD2B57.tmp\VB5Runtime\msvbvm50.exe' cannot be verified.

2007-09-27 Thread Craig0ss

Hi there

When i try and install my msi on windows vista, my bootstrapper looks for
vb5runtime, if its not found its start the setup of the vb5runtime, this
works fine, however when i click the install for the vb5runtime i get the
following error

Setup has detected that the publisher of file
'C:\Users\Craig0ss\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD2B57.tmp\VB5Runtime\msvbvm50.exe'
cannot be verified.

if i try an install the vb5runtime manualy it works fine but it doesnt when
exectuted from my setup.exe, i thought it may be a problem with UAC so i
tried it with UAC disabled but to no evail, i also tried running the
setup.exe as admin but again to no evail.

here is the code for my bootstrapper, hopefully someone can help me with
this issue as im stuck :S

[WiX-users] (hresult -2147024770)

2007-09-25 Thread Craig0ss

Hi

When i install my msi on an XP machine i have no problems, however ive tried
to install on a Vista machine and i get the following error the installer is
trying to register a certain .dll

i get

Module c:\windows\system32zxscan4.dll failed to register. hresult
-2147024770. contact your support personnel.

on XP this dll registers fine

Does any one have any info on this matter?

What im tasked with doing now is making my installer still install this dll
to both opertaing systems but only register it if XP is detected, this is
not the path i would like to go down, as its a bodge fix that will have to
undone at some point, id rather get this dll registering ok

This dll enables my software to use scanners etc so its quite important

Thank you

[WiX-users] Wix Bug, Installs to drive with most space

2007-09-24 Thread Craig0ss

Hey

Im still playing around with my installer, testing mainly and ive come
across what appers to be a bug in Wix (im told)

Basically on install, if the user selects an install dir with say 2gb free
space, the installer will auto install to the c drive that has eg 4gb free
space, regardless of the path the user specifies.

Does anyone know a fix for this

Thanks

Re: [WiX-users] Run my Setup.exe file if user clicks the MSI file

2007-09-24 Thread Craig0ss

with the code that Rob left you may wish to put "or Installed" after it, this
will allow the add remove programs to successfully remove your app, with the
current code, the app wont install unless the setup.exe is run, however if
you try to remove using add remove programs you get your error msg "Please
run from exe"

so put this in like like

(RUNFROMEXE=1) or
Installed

Hope that helps

2007-09-21 Thread Craig0ss

HI there

Basically i have had to take this conditon out for the mean time as its not
allowign the uninstall of the product using the add remove programs feature.

If there is any information on this i would be greatfull, i have read the

the product from the exe (No msi install) and i need to be able to
un-install from the add remove programs from control panel without the
procedure being canceled because the code for the exe

Re: [WiX-users] Make User Run exe when the msi is run

2007-09-20 Thread Craig0ss

hi there

I have now got this working fine, however i now have a problem on uninstall.
When i go to add remove programs and try to uninstall my app from there, the
app trys to start the .msi and obviously that wont work because of the
launch conditonm i get the error "Please run from the exe" which is the
error msg that i put in for when a user trys to load the program from the
msi and not the exe

So now i need to know how to put another condition to do with this to make
the add remove programs use the installer exe and not the msi

Any ideas

Thank you

Re: [WiX-users] Make User Run exe when the msi is run

2007-09-06 Thread Craig0ss

Right then

Basically the below code worked when run from a command line
//..//..//setup.exe RUNFROMEXE=1

this works fine

However i need this done automaticaly when the end user runs the setup.exe
from a GUI

Below is the code to the bootstrapper that im using and any help on the
argument code and where to put it would be very welcome

http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003";>

C:\Projects\BuildStuff\Installer\Optisoft.msi

  .NET Framework 2.0

  Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8

  Windows Installer 3.1

  MSJet35

  VB6Runtime

Thanks

Re: [WiX-users] Make User Run exe when the msi is run

2007-09-06 Thread Craig0ss

hmm my bad,

i put that code in under the package in the xml file, the msi now displays
the msg when its executed, however when the setup.exe is executed the msg is
also displayed, im not sure that i have passed the argument properly from
the exe to msi as stated below.

Any more Ideas

Thanks

[WiX-users] Make User Run exe when the msi is run

2007-09-05 Thread Craig0ss

HI There

Im new to .msi installers and WIX and i need to know how to do the
following.

Ive built my installer so i now have my .msi file and my .exe file, i need
information on a 'condition'? so that when the user executes the .msi file
to install my application it displays a message saying that setup should be
run from the setup.exe instead of the .msi

I would be very greatful on any information on this

Thank You
