[WiX-users] Feature Conditional Install
Hi there I have 3 Features in my install, System, Server and Client. The system feature is installed with both and server and client and is always present. Now i have a dialog with 2 button, server and client, now when i click client i only want the client feature installed and when i click the server button i only want the server feature installed. So far i have put conditions on the featurs like this Server Feature = CLIENTINSTALL Client Feature = SERVERINSTALL Now on the buttons that select either the client or server isntall i have a publish that sets the clientinstall property, like this on the client install button can anyone make any sense of this and help me out, i can get it so one of the feature installs correctly but the other is always installed no matter what, so i need to somehow disable and enable the istall on each button making them oposite depending on which button is pressed. Re: [WiX-users] Run my Setup.exe file if user clicks the MSI file
with the code that Rob left you may wish to put "or Installed" after it, this will allow the add remove programs to successfully remove your app, with the current code, the app wont install unless the setup.exe is run, however if you try to remove using add remove programs you get your error msg "Please run from exe" so put this in like like (RUNFROMEXE=1) or Installed Hope that helps Rob Hamflett wrote: > > From a previous post: > "You could put a Condition element under the Product element like this: > RUNFROMEXE = 1 > > When you call msiexec from the exe be sure to pass RUNFROMEXE=1 as an > argument. > Double-clicking the MSI file obviously won't provide this argument, and so > the launch condition will > fail." > > I don't know if you can get Windows Installer to perform an early return, > but this is at least a > step in the right direction. > > Rob > > Magus wrote: >> Ok, this might sound a bit odd, but I would like my installer to run my >> setup(bootstrapper) if the end-user clicks the MSI. Re: [WiX-users] Make User Run exe when the msi is run
hi there I have now got this working fine, however i now have a problem on uninstall. When i go to add remove programs and try to uninstall my app from there, the app trys to start the .msi and obviously that wont work because of the launch conditonm i get the error "Please run from the exe" which is the error msg that i put in for when a user trys to load the program from the msi and not the exe So now i need to know how to put another condition to do with this to make the add remove programs use the installer exe and not the msi Any ideas Thank you Rob Hamflett wrote: > > I'm not familiar with whatever product you're using for the bootstrapper, > sorry. Re: [WiX-users] Make User Run exe when the msi is run
hmm my bad, i put that code in under the package in the xml file, the msi now displays the msg when its executed, however when the setup.exe is executed the msg is also displayed, im not sure that i have passed the argument properly from the exe to msi as stated below.
