I see this from time to time with JRE upgrades. What I do is add a WPKG
'upgrade' line, that removes the version you're upgrading to, before
installing it. Then bump the revision number.
So, uninstall it, then reinstall it.

Likewise we use TightVNC server on Windows XP desktops, with Remmina as
the client on Ubuntu.
We used UltraVNC for a few years before switching to TightVNC as
UltraVNC is so appalling, I'm trying to remember what was so agonising
about it but my memory is a bit hazy:

In my experience there's absolutely no need to uninstall 3.6 and then
install 10, as upgrading works fine from 3.6 to 10ESR, for example using

This is the way we install Firefox and Thunderbird extensions, and until
I read here about alternate methods I understood this was Mozilla's
recommended method. We've not seen any breakage when recently upgrading
from 3.6.x to 8.0.x and not changing our installation methods.
