RE: [WSG] background images in HTML emails..
Hi Naveen, Unfortunately, HTML emails offer very little support for background images. Outlook 2007 doesn’t render them at all, I think some of the major webmail clients do, but gmail and Windows Live mail do not. It is very frustrating but the more you do it and realize what is possible you know where you can be creative, etc. All text has to be on flat background colours (background colours are fine). Think in terms of tables, and think HTML 1.0, font face tags and all. It goes against everything we talk about on this list, but its just the way it is. Visit this link: http://www.campaignmonitor.com/blog/archives/2006/03/a_guide_to_css_1.html Ive printed it out and keep a copy by my desk. If it’s not too late change the design, if all else fails then take the hit and make it one (or a few) huge images (text and all). It’s dirty, but you’ll get it out the door and you’ll know for next time. Hi Navii, I hate to say it but you will get inconsistencies using background images in HTML email. They will more than likely work in Outlook but gmail, hotmail and google will do stange things. The person reporting is using Safari (v. unknown) and I think on a Mac (not sure if this info is applicable). is an XHTML site and validated as such. On my Mac using Safari 3.0.4 the site displays just fine. Thoughts appreciated - Thank you, Without any more information, I'd guess the problem is specific to that person's computer. It could be that the font specification of palatino linotype is causing Safari to make some weird substitution that's not working out, but that'd be a bug. Well, there's a bug somewhere... Re: [WSG] META content-lang. declared but showing up different (for one person reporting)

I don't know if this is applicable, but I was opening/closing fonts on my Mac the other day to work on a project in Illustrator - to my dismay, I found sections of various sites (Craigslist, particularly) were showing up in exactly the same manner. Turned out that one of the Symbol fonts was simply named Helvetica (or whatever it may have been) and Safari was grabbing the Symbol rather than the alphabet font. The problem also showed in some TextEdit docs.. If this is an isolated incident, I'd lay odds that its a system configuration issue that has nothing to do with your site - which, incidentally, looks just fine on this Mac. [WSG] Hanging indents
Hi all I'm developing a site for a non-profit organisation and one page is their constitution. I'm trying to get the clauses to appear with a hanging indent as they currently do in the word version: http://www.dra.org.au/files/QTI5QDJCKU/DRA-Constitution-Amended-10Feb07%20(6 7%20KB).doc. I thought I'd achieved it using a float - see www.spiegelweb.com.au/test/dra/constitution_float.html - then looked at it in IE 6 and started tearing my hair out. I then tried a different approach using white-space: pre; www.spiegelweb.com.au/test/dra/constitution.html. I don't like this as it relies on multiple spaces and I suspect that it will stop lining up as soon as fonts other than the default are used. Suggestions anyone? (Note that I can't change the numbering scheme.) Re: [WSG] Hanging indents
Hi Elizabeth, I'm trying to get the clauses to appear with a hanging indent Try adding a div to the body of content you want this treatment in (saving on a lot of p.classes and extraneous markup), then put this in the CSS. div.clauses p { margin-left : 50px; text-indent : -40px; } The margin will create a nice gap for the indents, the neg margin should make what you want, first line only. The difference in measurement keep the indent from hitting the wall so to speak, but this could also be accomplished by adding padding to the div. div.clauses { padding : 10px; } div.clauses p { margin-left : 40px; text-indent : -40px; } Someone might say it's a job for an ordered list, but the complex numbers make that impossible, moreover, these items are numbered, this is true, but not really ordered. in IE 6 and started tearing my hair out. Well, we can't have that so I hope this helps. RE: [WSG] a a:hover
* I don´t know why is it happening but the hover is ok, working with all the links but the link is working only in one link. Here´s the style Make sure you are also setting :visited as well: li.launch a:link{ color:#CDEB8B; } li.launch a:visited{ color:#CDEB8B; } li.launch a:hover{ color:#CDEB8B; text-decoration:underline; } If that doesnt work, make sure you have the class=launch on all list elements that you want the color applied to. Hope that helps.
