[WSG] strange jaws issue with accessibility in php my admin with firefox

2012-05-12 Thread Marvin Hunkin

hi.
for some strange reason.
was able to create the first table and it worked, so have got that, but
for some stupid reason.
jaws, when i create another table in php my admin, when i click on the
go button, after defining the table.
instead of the first collumn edit field and the combo box with the type,
it says documentation link, after the first column edit box.
using firefox, wondering if jaws gets confused, and the only way that it
corrects it self is to do a shutdown and restart in windows 7.

any ideas.
internet explorer, not very accessible, keeps jumping to the address
field, when trying to tab in the edit fields.

so tearing my hair out.
or just wait till tomorrow, to do a shutdown and see if that rectifieds
things.

Marvin.

HI.
well.
have made changes, and fixed other issues, like the wording of say the
contact page, and also fixed spelling mistakes, and like initial
capitals on the occupational health and safety page which some one else
pointed out.

so just have uploaded the other pages.
so take a look at:

[WSG] Issues fixed I think In Site

2012-03-26 Thread Marvin Hunkin

HI.
just uploaded my newester version of my style sheet and the documents.
so have fixed issues, like all image and document names are all lower case.
no double bullets.
but wonder if it is a jaws issue or browser issues.
this is giving me a jaws issue or browser issue.
any ideas.
maybe need to tweek the style sheet a bit.
any help?
Marvin.

HI.
well in firefox, in the nav, says the font name, but not the alignment,
does in internet explorer, does read the font name and the allignment in
the main bullet list on the main page, and does read the name in the
footer, but not the alignment, in internet explorer, does not do that in
firefox, reads the font name, nav, does on the footer, google crhome,
did not report any font information.

the worst in the browser.
so, what do i need to make the font anme and alignment for all lists, on
the site.

Marvin.

[WSG] Fonts and Jaws Real querky

2012-03-25 Thread Marvin Hunkin

hi.
well.
why is jaws say in firefox, not reading the font

alignment, and also in the footer of my site.
it does not read the font name, in internet explorer.
is jaws being querky?
i have totally rebuilt and edited my site. so will be uploading tomorrow.
also, in one of my pages, my site map page, there are double bullets.
how to only have one lot of bullets.
and also does it look okay, to those who have some sight.
does the lists look okay, the colours look okay, it looks fine, from a visual
stand point.
and also is my information correct about occupational health and safety
policies in australia, and also my technology page is accurate.
so, any feedbac, would be fine, once i upload tomorrow.

[WSG] Updated Website Feedback

2012-03-25 Thread Marvin Hunkin

HI.
okay.
well, if any one is sighted or has some sight, take a look at the images.
let me know if the alt tags, are saying the correct alt tag for the images.
also, if i need to resize, let me know, and give me coordinates.
also.
have got double bullets in the site map, as i could not design a image
map, no really accessible map software with jaws, and dreamweaver, the
map tag or map control. was not very accessible.

okay, also take a look at my style sheet.
now.
in firefox, jaws is not saying the font alignment, and in the footer,
list, it is not reading the font names or the alignment.
but in internet explorer, it reads me the font name and alignment in the
navigation list, but in the footer, does not read the font name and the
alignment.

might have to ask freedom scientific.com
support.
or maybe my local web design google groups for my local college.
if any one can help.
think i have nutted out 99%, and have to give a big thanks to a sighted
guy Charles on another web design list, for helping me with the layout
and position of my style sheet elements.

okay, the site url is:

HI.
well.
have created a website project for a school assignment.
my lecturer, said i could upload it.
so here's the site address.

1. in firefox, jaws speaks the font name, the font type, but not the
font size.
it does do it in internet explorer, but in the second list, it does not
speak out the font name.

any ideas, why this is happening.
well.
any feedback, comments, suggestions, and modifications i need to make.
before submitting this assignment for my Diploma in Website Development
from htttp://wsi.tafensw.edu.au

so, take a look.
any feedback welcome.

[WSG] Style Sheet Query

2012-03-14 Thread Marvin Hunkin

HI.
gota style sheet, and have the ul, ol, dl list, and a ul, a, b, and now.
the first set or the two lists, they say the font name, but putting a
third list, a list of my web and programming projects, for a school
project, a port folio page.

now jaws is not saying the font name, just 16 pt.
why?
do i need to create another list element.
real weird.
also, in jaws, the body, and the headings, not telling me the font
alignment, and it does on other web pages.

maybe some thing stupid, or wrong i am doing.
well.
will upload the site on the weekend, hopefully, for review, comment,
feedback.

got the ok from my lecturer to do this.
so look for the links or the e-mail on the weekend.

[WSG] any php gurus on list

2012-01-22 Thread Marvin Hunkin

hi.
learning php and my sql via a course via http://wsi.tafensw.edu.au, and
working my way through some exercises and the php challenges via the
wicki versity page.

and the lecturers are not back till febuary 6.
so, have googled, and googled, and googled, think 50 plus pages,
yesterday, and i cannot find an answer to a couple of problems.

so, maybe any one in australia, maybe can help me out.
a blind it student using the jaws for windows screen reader, and using
wamp server 2.2 for windows 7 professional 32 bit, running on a toshiba
a 300 satellite laptop.
and i do not why i am getting an error, when trying to insert a new
record, in a php script, for a my sql database.

so, if some one could e-mail me privately off list and help me out.
that is one problem, i am banging my head against.
the second problem.
is did a upload script, and got a image of my self.
but i get the

white space or end of script error.
so maybe can explain the program logic, i need to get student details, display
them, then make sure the image is uploaded, then a if then statement to display
the image, select a student id and display the information for the student,
then delete the id for the student, and the image.
so can any one kindly please help me off list.
spent most of yesterday trawling through about 50 google pages trying to find
the answer to this problem.
unless, it needs to go inside my table i created.
sorry.
this is frustrating me, and do not have three weeks to wait for my lecturers to
get back, as plenty of work to do to get and start my major project up and
running, which is a blindness site called BlindAid.
so if any kind soul, could help me out.
not to do it, but to help me how to fix the problems i have outlined above.

someone who would let me play with the SMTP server running on his

[WSG] Stack over flow with jaws

2011-12-14 Thread Marvin Hunkin

Hi.
well.
tried this site.
not very screen reader friendly.
heaps of clickable scroll bars, and had a lot of trouble finding the
forum, to ask the questions, so went to the sister site, and was able to
ask the question.

and then had to use web visum, to do the are you a human thing.
and just checked, my question was not answered.
so, is there a more screen reader friendly, php group, maybe like a
yahoo groups, mailling list, etc.

and maybe some one can help me with a php error i have.
any aussies on this mailling list, who can point me to a mailling list
or group, yahoo, google groups, for php.

sorry.
just frustrated.
looked at the php manual, how to input a e-mail form, in the php script,
to, subject, message, then put the variables, and not liking one line
for some reason.

any help.

[WSG] Database Success

2011-12-12 Thread Marvin Hunkin

hi.
well.
how do i reset the password.
and how to do it in the my sql command line.
possibly my database could be screwed up or some thing.
did get it to work.
and now.

and just looked in the database script nad it added my name and my phone
number.

several times.
so how to delete the number of times, so i only have my name once.
so it is working.
in another script, and another folder.
so it is working.
Marvin.
ps: sorry for bothering you guys.
so how to remove multiple entries in my database.
or just copy it over from the other folder.
which has the default.
then try running the script.
then i get the access denied.
but when i look in the other php scrip, in a folder called FourthPHP, it
added the record to the database.

it is working.
minus, the date.
and in the database, not showing the date.
so my learning purposes, it is working.

[WSG] Flash Professional Accessibility With Jaws

2011-12-12 Thread Marvin Hunkin

Hi.
well maybe andrew kirk patrick can shed light.
the only inaccessible program in the adobe cs 5.5 web premium, apart
from the drawing programs, fireworks, illustrator, photo shop, cs 5.5
flash professional.

not really that accessible.
and i had to do a lot of jaws cursuring to create a new flash
professional document.

and think i created it.
but not the most accessible.
unless, this for animation.
so any accessibility tips, for this application, fireworks, illustrator,
photo shop for a totally blind web site developer student.

[WSG] Installing Adobe CS 5.5 success!

2011-12-10 Thread Marvin Hunkin

hi.
well, i had to go into options, then select all.
and it installed it.
but it said it had errors.
so, just launched all the programs, and they work fine.
so not sure what the problem was and no option for the 32 bit or 64 bit.
i did tell the people who were selling this tafe nsw shop, si group.
http://www.sigroup.com.au

and i said i have a 32 bit system.
so, now all is working fine.
well.
here's my accessibility take.
alsl the programs, work fine, except for some stupid reason.
flash builder professional, when i tried to select a new project, would
not read the dialogs correctly, and had to do a lot of mouse cursuring.
i use jaws 13.
and was not able to create a web flash project.
all the other products work really great, like dreamweaver, flash
builder 4.5, and was able say for example, able to create a action
script project and put it in the code block stubs, for editing.
and was able to create a flash project, and a sample project, and using
firefox 8, it created a default web page with a flash button, and jaws
read it okay, says button 0.
so able to tab around use the b button for jaws in the browser.
was able to set up, or contribute and bridge.
and also able to use the other products, except flash professional,
would not read the controls when i tried to create a new prject. and so
could not set it up. good old flash player, that is accessible.

and then fireworks, which is a drawing package, illustrator, photoshop.
java extension tool kit and the extension manager, and the application
life cycle, that is accessible.
so i think adobe has made a lot of effort to make these packages
accessible for the blind.

and able to use dream weaver.
so will be reading the documentation, listening to utube and other
videos, getting started, how to use some of these applications.

Marvin.

[WSG] Story Boards

2011-10-23 Thread Marvin Hunkin

hi.
well.
i am building a complex blindness related site.
and now doing this via http://wsi.tafensw.edu.au
and now, there is a accessible drawing tool called svg draw 01
from dick baldwin.
he is a computer science professor at washington state university.
so, how to use this tool.
to layout my page elements, links, buttons, frames, headings, etc.
using jaws.
and then how to visualise all the coordinates.
able to create lines, shapes, etc, via a wizard.
this is a java based application.
and it works, well without using the java access bridge.
so, any ideas, trick, tips, how to get this done.
as part of the design process.
and also, another question.
which colours work best for low vision users, and as i am totally blind,
but did have sight when i was younger, so which colours, look the best,
and also how to visually line out the pages, for this design process.

if any one has got any ideas.
for accessibility, let me know.

[WSG] Accessibility With Moodle

2011-10-21 Thread Marvin Hunkin

hi.
using jaws 12.0.1170 and jaws 13.0.241.
and doing a online diploma in website development from
http://wsi.tafensw.edu.au, and they use http://wwwmoodle.org

which is not very accessible with jaws.
i have e-mailed support at supp...@moodle.org about that jaws 12 and
13, in firefox, does not read some of the content after a while, and
just says blank.

and it has javascript, or java submenus, and jaws gets stuck on that.
firefox 7.0, was really bad, and after a while had to try internet
explorer 9.
and it read the content a little better, but a couple of times, got
stuck on the submenu.
so, maybe if everyone wrote to http://www.moodle.org, might be able to
get some real progress about this.
has any one else used moodle, with a screen reader, and their
experiences, good, bad, the ugly.
and at the moment, the lecturers have to rewrite their content, and send
it to me via e-mail.

so in three months, have only completed three subjects.
which is a slow and timely process.
they also have other online students, face to face, and i have tried to
ask them, and they said that moodle, is making changes to their
e-learning platform, but could take a few months.

and when i was able to login.
a lot of broken links, enrollment keys, to login, and a combo box, when
i was in the right area, no keyboard shortcuts, and some combo box
items, just said item 3, or what ever.

this is really, really annoying.
so my question is.
for a large institution, how easy is to fix accessibility, of education
institutions, to hand create the e-learning pages, and then put
accessibility into these pages?
and if there are any other more easier and more accessible e-learning
systems, what are they, and how complex, or simple for a large
institution, to move their content to this new platform.

any feedback, suggestions, or where i go from here.
want to use the e-learning platform, but a real challenge for a student
with a dsiaiblity, of mine, bieng blind and using a screen reader.
i did test with nvda, and got similar results in internet explorer 9,
firefox 7.0.

[WSG] Drawing Tool For the Blind Is Here At Last

2011-09-22 Thread Marvin Hunkin

hi.
if you visit http://www.dickbaldwin.com, got this program link from the
top tid bits from http://top.enterprises.com

and it is a accessible java based drawing tool for the blind.
he is a university student.
and so it is fully accessible.
it comes in a zip file.
and you need the latest or a recent java jre or sdk, and java access bridge.
cool, i have always wanted to create data flow diagrams, flow charts,
for my help desk course, and computer programming.
and also to design a story board for my blindness related site, for my
website development course.

well i was able to start a new drawing, and able to create a line control.
real cool.
check it out.

[WSG] major web site project

2011-08-11 Thread Marvin Hunkin
Hi john.

Had not thought of that.

And would have to purchase a usb headset, as my built in Toshiba mike is not
very good quality.

So, yes, could have links to read a portion of text using the jaws screen
reader.

I do not own window-eyes.

Marvin.

[WSG] INTERNET EXPLORER 8 PROBLEMS

2010-08-02 Thread Marvin Hunkin
HI.
DID A TUTORIAL FROM JEFF DURRUM ON HTTP://WWW.BLINDGEEKS.ORG
AND FOR SOME STRANGE REASON.
INTERNET EXPLORER 8.
DOES NOT SHOW ME THE RESULTS OF A PAGE.
WRITING A JAVASCRIPT APPLICATION.
A SHOPPING CART.
WHERE YOU SELECT ITEMS AND PRCIES IN A DROP DOWN COMBO BOX, AND THEN ENTER A
QUANTITY IN A EDIT BOX.
THEN CLICK THE ADD TO SHOPPING CART BUTTON.
A MESSAGE POPS UP SAYING THE ITEM WAS ADDED.
THEN YOU CLICK ON THE VIEW SHOPPING CART.
WHICH TAKES YOU TO A PAGE, AND SHOW YOU THE TOTAL PRICES , TAXES, AND TOTALS OF
THE ITEMS PURCHASED.
THEN YOU HAVE A COMPLETE YOUR SHOPPING CART BUTTON, WHICH CLEARS OUT ALL YOUR
TOTALS.
AND PRESENTS YOU WITH A MESSAGE.
TO CHECK OUT OR YOUR ITEMS ARE COMPLETE.
BUT IT IS NOT WORKING IN INTERNET EXPLORER 8.
SO DO I UNINSTALL, TRY REINSTALLING.
WAS WORKING LAST WEEK, BUT NOT NOW.
WORKS IN FIREFOX.
ANY IDEAS.
TRIED SETTING THE PRIVACY TO 40 % AND TRIED SETTING THE SECURITY OPTIONS AND
ALLOWING ACTIVE EX CONTENT.
BUT DID NOT STILL WORK.
SO ANY IDEAS, OTHER PROGRAMS, ACTIVE EX I COULD INSTALL.
TEARING MY HAIR OUT.
THANK YOU.

2010-04-04 Thread Marvin Hunkin

the folders that the projects were in were:

and able to use recovery software and were they successfull.

[WSG] help

2010-04-02 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
well lost all my project a couple of months ago.
dodgy system restore.
corrupted hard disk.
so with my toshiba satellite a300 you can set it back to default factory
settings.
thus wiping the drive.
so lost all my projects, data, e-mails, links, contacts, etc.
and my music.
but been able to get most of the music back from a friend.
now got a external 1 tb external drive.
tried a few recovery programs.
but either not accessible.
did find one called recover my files, but to recover, you had to pay for the
version.
problem, i do not have a credit card or pay pal account.
so, any one used recovery software that works with a screen reader, and is free.
marvin.

[WSG] lost my web projects

2010-03-02 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
please read the message below.
lost my web projects.
corrupted hard disk crash with my toshiba.
had to set it back to factory default.
so got a external hard disk now.
but my question is:
is there any accessible recovery software where i could get my web projects,
and other data back, like web projects, important documents, music. etc.
cheers Marvin.

Hi.
okay.
i am a blind computing student.
i use the jaws for windows screen reader software.
from http://www.freedomscientific.com
well this is what i did on febuary 4.
i was uninstalling sql server, as was having a problem.
as i am doing a star trek application using visual web developer and sql server.
a blind friend programmer who was helping me out.
said i needed to stop all administrator services.
so had accidently turned off system restore, turned it back on.
i have a toshiba satellite a300 psagra 48056630Q model.
now, selected my s c: drive.
and not the toshiba hidden volume.
selected a time back the previous day.
clicked next, and system restore.
jaws speaks all text on the screen and i use the keyboard to navigate.
using windows vista home premium.
2 gb ram, 2.1 ghz processor, 250 gb hard disk, ati radium card, real tech audio
manager, jaws 11.0.756u.
Now heard a clunk, clunk sound.
when i rebooted the machine.
and the next day my dad read what was on screen.
said the hard disk particion corrupted.
so had to reset it back to factory default.
did not have a external hard disk.
i do now.
but have lost all my important documents, college projects, contacts, music, etc.
so is there any way to get the data back.
have been installing and uninstalling software.
i had the music in the music folder under Marvin.
and my main folder was called c:\Docs.
where i had a lot of folders, Marvins Web Site, Tafe, etc.
current articles, Star Trek Project, Test Site for visual web developer.
Mingw, a c++ application.
I cannot be with out my laptop.
Hoping to start online learning, also seeking employment and looking for
employment.
This is my main machine for information, projects, and entertainment.
Like listening to sport on radio stations on the net, getting information,
listening to pod casts about blindness, adaptive technology, etc.
So if you can help me out.
would like to do it my self if possible.
So any software.
tried 2 or 3, demo versions, but not either accessible.
Or the trial version would let me preview files, but not recover, unless i
purchased the full version.
I do not have a credit card.
So can you help me.
cannot be without my machine.
Was working on updating a few student web projects.
Lost Them all.
Or because i have installed, uninstalled, and written to the hard disk.
is it gone forever?
Marvin.
ps: Have got a external hard disk now and do regular backups.
I live in Devonport, Tasmania.

The element named above was found in a context where it is not allowed. This
could mean that you have incorrectly nested elements -- such as a style
element in the body section instead of inside head -- or two elements
that overlap (which is not allowed).

One common cause for this error is the use of XHTML syntax in HTML
documents. Due to HTML's rules of implicitly closed elements, this error can
create cascading effects. For instance, using XHTML's self-closing tags
for meta and link in the head section of a HTML document may cause the
parser to infer the end of the head section and the beginning of the
body section (where link and meta are not allowed; hence the reported
error).

[WSG] vallidation nightmares

2010-01-19 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
using the we3 c vallidator.
and not liking my xhtml code.
and usign the jaws for windows screen reader.
and reading me all the elements like i
so not sure what is happening.
trying to vallidate .
but the vallidator is being real picky.
i know my code is correct.
now can any one help me out to fix these problems.
got the first page vallidated and that was the copyright page.
now up to the credits page.
not liking the div element for some reason.
please help me out.
and also did some one saying no br / inside an ul element for a list.
well how to code it so when reading by paragraph which i use control down
arrow.
then want to hear the heading.
then a blank.
and then the list which tells me list of 10 items.
then i want to hear the first item on the next line.
and the end of the list.
want to hear the word list on its own line.
please help me out.
getting real annoyed and frustrated.
and hate this site.
they have redesigned it, so to make it harder for the blind person.
a couple times trying to use the alt left arrow to go back to revallidate
and the stupid site would not let me so had to type the address to go back
in.
if there are any more screen reader frendly and easy to use vallidators let
me know.
been at least 6 months since i visted this site and was more screen reader
friendly.
i hate that when they redesign it.
and do not take the blind into consideration.
okay that's my beef for today.
now will poste the code of the vallidated output and my file code below.
cheers Marvin.

[WSG] internet explorer font names

2010-01-18 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
what do you mean vallidate the css and the pages.
did do that a while back and it vallidated all.
now in internet explorer 7, it would read all the names on all elements.
it does not with internet explorer 8.
so how to fix this.
maybe can test in ie 7 and ie8.
and see if it is reading the font names.
well for the body.
thought it would read the other elements as well.
unless i need to put the font names for all elements.
please help me out.
or might just have to roll back to ie7, which i do not really want to.
so wonder if it is a internet explorer issue.
and trying to find the contact form for tech site on the microsoft site with
a screen reader is a real pain.
marvin.

[WSG] font names problem in internet explorer

2010-01-16 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
well tried fixing the error in the css.
but still not reading the font names.
just says centered.
and it is not a internet explorer problem or a jaws problem.
was able to go to a couple of sites.
use the insert f command in jaws which reads the font on the selected
element.
so wonder if my font names are all screwed or not right.
how to fix this.
please help me out.
when i was internet explorer 7, would read the font names.
but in internet explorer 8.
does not read it.
so some is screwing my code.
please help.
maybe got the font names not correctly coded.
will paste my style sheet below.
so it is some thing with my style sheet.
or maybe in the wrong place.
will copy and paste the code of my main page.
so you can see the location of where my style sheet is.
Marvin.

[WSG] css tutorial

2010-01-14 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
well a member of blind geeks.
and asked to write a short basic tutorial on css.
did learn css in my web design course in 2007.
and di use it a bit to tweek a web project recently.
but my question is:
what resources and what links to some tutorials to get a handle on how to
write a short css tutorial.
and how to write one.
and what do i need to put in it.
just asking.
i do know css, but a bit rusty.
and totally blind.
so the biggest problem, where things are located on screen.
so any one got any ideas where to start and how to write a tutorial for this
technical group.
Marvin.

[WSG] visual web developer and jaws

2010-01-11 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
when i had jaws 10 and started this star trek application over 12 months
ago.
when say arrowing down and reaidng in the browser.
for each episode say for example season 4 episode 1 the best of both worlds
part one.
the buttons i have are edit, delete and new.
when reading using the down arrow with jaws 11.0.746 u, the buttons read all
on one line.
and not each button on each own separate line.
well any visual web developer gurus.
using visual web developer 2008 express, sql server and sql management
studio 2008 express, on a toshiba a300 satellite psag4a 30020m.
2 gb ram, 250 gb hard disk, 2.1 ghz proessor, ati radium video card, real
tech audio manager, built in web cam and microphone.
so how to fix this, so the buttons read on each line, instead on all one
line.
maybe in the markup code or maybe in the code behind file.
just found this annoying when i went to jaws 11.
the web site and the database reads fine.
just annoying for me.
did intend it so that the buttons were on each line one button on its own.
any one got any ideas.
Marvin.

[WSG] Looking for Images

2009-11-02 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
doing a world war veterans club website.
actually updating it.
so was wondering, looking for images, of icons, logos, ships, planes, sub
marines, flags, pictures of men , woman.
and could spend years trolling via google images.
so i would ask.
where i could find royalty free images.
that is accessible with a screen reader.
cheers Marvin.

2009-11-02 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
sorry to have bothered people with the last message.

totally forgot i had sent that.
so sorry about that.
now have revamped my joe's fruit shop and a friend helped me out editing the
images.
and giving me some pointers.
so have redesigned the site.
feedback please?
before i move on to fixing my next project.

[WSG] My Site

2009-10-07 Thread Marvin Hunkin
my site still errorshi.
take a look at http://startrekcafe.alacorncomputer.com
still errors.
and okay will go and download the vision australia color tester and see what
colors they say for the background.
okay will go and vallidate the hoem page.
did fix the table reading problem.
it was the screen reader table setting for ie, which was giving me grief on
the home page.
did not set my table layout settings to screen layout.
now the table reads fine.
and also what other changes i should make to make this a slicker site.
any good, bad or ugly feedback would be fine and making final changes.
I am blind and use a screen reader, and want this to be tarted for blind and
sighted users.
looking forward to your feedback.
cheers Marvin.
