[WSG] IE bug?

2007-09-19 Thread Stijn Audooren

Hello,

I have a little trouble with IE :-(. Don't know if someone can help me or
if you know anybody who could help me fix the problem...
Don't know if this is a bug or something wrong from my side. I try to
explain:

I've made a website (www.tessadockers.be) and in the item agenda the
pictures don't come always on the screen visually. After refresh,
everything looks fine. In FF there is no problem. In IE (tested in 6 and
7) the images are on the right place, but they are not always immediately
ready to see. If you go over the image (or the place where the image has
to be) the alt-text is shown. Don't think it's the peekaboo. It's not the
first IE problem of course, but I just can't fix this one right away :-s.
Don't know if I explained the problem properly. If you have questions,
please ask.

Pages with the problem:
for ex.
www.tessadockers.be/agenda/september.htm
www.tessadockers.be/agenda/augustus.htm
www.tessadockers.be/agenda/juli.htm
www.tessadockers.be/agenda/juni.htm
...

Why doesn't everybody uses Firefox ;-)?

Hope someone can help me with that. Thanks in advance!!!

In which case Stijn, I would guess you have images turned off in IE - try all
the menus or maybe an IE user could help.

There are two options for displaying text instead of images in IE see
screenshots of both at

Betr.: Re: [WSG] IE bug?

2007-09-19 Thread Stijn Audooren

Hi Karl,

Thanks for your reply. It's not working overhere so I will give some more
details... maybe this can help?

Just tried in IE7 overhere and for ex. on page
http://www.tessadockers.be/agenda/augustus.htm I only see the first 5
pictures (in blue content part). There are three pictures not visible:

23 augustus 2007, 21 augustus 2007, 19 augustus 2007

In http://www.tessadockers.be/agenda/juli.htm for ex. I see the first 4
pictures. That means 10 pictures are not visible at this moment. After
refresh, everything looks fine.

I have the reflex to refresh, but most of the users don't. So in the
meantime we have a lot of complaints.
If you want to test, you need to clear your cache again, because if you go
twice to a page everything will work... Not every visitor will refresh or
is going twice to one page of course :-(.

Betr.: Re: [WSG] IE bug?

2007-09-19 Thread Stijn Audooren

Well, that's the problem... the images are not turned off. When I was
surfing around to find something that can be helpfull I did see a lot of
people having the problem of images turned off.
But in my case: I see some of the pictures, so... And don't have problems
with other websites and images.

There is no script or flash or... to show the images. I was thinking it's
a positioning problem or something like that. A problem with div's?
First I thought I could fix it by placing each image between p/p.
Position relative maybe referencing peekaboo was another option. Well, I
tried a lot of things, but without a working solution.

Hi,

I noticed your images are pretty large. Are you on a slow bandwidth
connection like dial up? I know IE gives up if something doesn't download
within a specific time period (I believe it is 60 seconds by default - could
be wrong about the default). You could try bringing your images into
PhotoShop or similar package and save for web. I took one image and
reduced it to less 1/10th it's original size with no loss in quality.

Hello,

Don't think this is the problem :-(. I checked a page and it's about 7

seconds to load, checked some images and these are around 60kb. (I did

already save for web in Photoshop, but I understand it's possible to

reduce more if that's necessary, but don't think that's the solution for

the problem). The big picture at the top is big indeed, but this is

I had no difficulty with those pages in IE6 or IE7 other than I got real
bored waiting fo them to load.

The only page I checked for speed came in at 149.53 seconds on a 56Kbps

optimize them.

There a just a few markup errors to correct when you can get around to it.

[WSG] IE Bug?

2005-10-08 Thread Lyme Info
Hi,

I've observed an inconsistent problem on my site with
Internet Explorer. Basically, in the upper left area
of the main (white) section a gray box that varies in
size will appear occassionally. The box disappears
when scrolling down then up again. Slight variations
of this problem appear on any of the pages.

Pictures:

Any ideas?

Thanks,

[WSG] ie bug - content disappears on hover

2005-04-29 Thread Drake, Ted C.
Hi All
I've been having a problem that I can't figure out.
Naturally, everything looks good in firefox/opera/safari, but IE is freaking
out. I can't send you to the page, it is in an intranet.

However, I hope I can describe the problem and maybe you've seen it before.

The page has three columns and each column has subsections. The subsections
are in this format:
div
h3/h3
Content, p or ul
/div

When you mouse over some of these divs, the content disappears and the
background color appears. It's like you are erasing it in blocks.

Here is one div (imagine the x's are actual information. I need to remove
any information on these messages)

div id=communications
h3a href=xx/a/h3
p
a href=/ximg src=xx alt=x/a
 abbr title=Chief Executive Officer lang=enCEO/abbr x a
href=//a xxx./p
/div

div id=websitehelp
h3a href=//Get Help With a Web Site/a/h3
a href=xx class=logo /a
p
a href=/x/x/a x:/p
ul
lia href=/xxx/xxx/a/li
lia href=/xx.htmlxxx/a/li
lia href=/xxx/a/li
lia href=//xxx/a/li
/ul
/div

As you can see, the code is pretty simple. In #websitehelp, the link with
class=logo is using a background image and pushing the text offscreen. The
communications div has an image that is floated.

The page layout is using the three column technique where the center channel
has huge borders and the left and right float on top of the borders. It
works quite nicely.

I have added height:1% to some divs and that seems to keep the erasing from
happening, but then the background images I'm applying with CSS don't always
appear in IE.

Like I said earlier, I'm grabbing at straws on this one. Any help would be
much appreciated.

In case it is not the guillotine, you could provide an URL to a

Re: [WSG] IE bug

2004-02-21 Thread Martin Chapman
Hi

I've actually had a crack at fixing this problem for the guy, over at
macosx.com. I originally thought that it may have been the 'ol IE
whitespace bug (I asked him to try, but didn't get round to it myself).
I then tried to use horizontal rules (which worked great on every
browser except IE6 still).

Anyway, just had another go, and have fixed it. Very simple really...
here's my remake (if you don't mind, just wanted to test... I'll remove
it from my server by Monday (or if you let me know earlier)):

http://dev.c-o2.net/hippop.htm

Here's the only CSS rules I've changed (have added only one extra, the
img#bannerImage):

/* ---   */
img {
border: none;
}
div#Banner {
width: 586px;

/* ---   */
div#Main {
padding-top: 25px;
border-color: #d8d8d8;
border-style: solid;
width: 406px;

background-color: #F1F1F1;
border-top-width: 5px;
border-bottom-width: 5px;
border-right-style: solid;
border-left-style: solid;
border-left-width: 1px;

padding-bottom: 25px;
}

And he also needs to add the id attribute to the image within the HTML:

img id=bannerImage height=183 alt=Pifpaf
src=http://www.hippopocampe.org/images/headers/rotate.php; width=586
/

And that's it. I've also moved the #Menu position up slightly, it was
mis-aligned with the #Main div (however, whichever position it is in,
it's either wrong in Safari, or wrong in IE, ever so slightly. He could
tighten up on his us of CSS a bit more (and could look into laying-out
the page with floats rather than using absolute positioning), but all
that comes with the more you use it. Nice site.

Thats more likely to be due to the predefined margins/padding set in IE
on the form element.
(Each browser sets the default layout of some tags a little
differently).
Quite easy to change with css, eg:
form {
  margin-bottom: 0;
 }
as appropriate :)

Re: [WSG] IE bug

Chris

Have you tried :

#id form
{
margin : 0;
padding : 0;
}
? It's always good to do this so as not to leave the margin and padding
size to the user agent.
Every UA will default to it's own spec if not told otherwise. Hopefully
they'll listen to us.

Cheers

[WSG] IE bug

2004-02-20 Thread Michael Donnermeyer
A guy on a message board I mod is having some issues with IE6 Win and his layout. Anyone with IE6Win care to take a look. I tried a few things with no luck, doesn't seem to be the PHP rotator causing issues but the image itself.

Thanks, MD

here is the website: hippopocampe.org
here is the css: hippopocampe.org/styles-site.css

in IE6 in Windows, the bottom border of the main image header (the rotate.php) is off 5 pixels like if the image had a 5 pixel bottom-padding. But it hasn't. That affects the header but also the 'main' section, as it too is 5 pixels off. Any suggestions for a workaround?

Re: [WSG] IE bug

2004-02-20 Thread russ weakley
Michael,

Haven't looked but it may be a simple Win/IE6 carriage return bug. It seems
that Win/IE is the only browser that renders carriage returns or line feeds
as whitespace directly before a closing containing element:
http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/mystery/

Two things to try if this is the case.

1. move the end div up onto the same line as the image
... width=586 height=183 border=0 //div

2. add a single CSS declaration to the banner rule set
 #Banner {
width: 586px;
height: 183px;
padding: 0px;
border-left-style: none;
border-right-style: none;
border: 5px solid black;
margin: 0px 0px 12px 0px;
border-right-width: 0px;
border-left-width: 0px;
}

Add a new declaration:
 font-size: 1px;

My weird theory is that this makes the carriage return small enough that it
cannot be seen.

I had thought about something like that, but never tried anything. I
think I had a similar issue with a list a while back or something,
can;t remember.

I forwarded what you said on to the guy, hopefully this is the issue
and it solves it. He was getting a bit unnerved with the XHTML/CSS way
because of it.

Thanks,
MD

So move your form out to surround an area that isn't pixel-perfect
critical.. the whole page if necessary..
