The issue is that I can connect and start the sftp session, but any sftp

From your log I can't see which SourceForge user ID you used to connect.
As mentioned the wxmidi subdirectory was created by SF user "cecilios".

if user "cecilios" has the right SF permissions for project wxCode? I think
