Hi,
I was wondering if there would be any interest in a custom 8.04 LTS
ubuntu live CD with xastir pre-built?
I'm currently building a custom ubuntu CD for work related stuff, so
it shouldn't take all that long to do another. I might just do it
anyway for the practice.
Cheers

I'd be interested. . . Primarily as a time saver, but I've been away from
Linux for years - and now that I'm officially old (just retired), puzzles
seem to take longer to solve.

Fyi, there's already an Xubuntu 8.10 live CD available with Xastir
pre-built - see http://www.xastir.org/wiki/index.php/Downloads.
However, some would probably prefer the Gnome desktop vs. Xfce, so I
think there would be interest in an Ubuntu version as well. In fact,

The answer is no !
You need an install CD or a network install setup. I prefer the network install
myself. installation and removal of programs on Ubunto is so easy ! as well as
system updates.

Really?
I did an install from the Xubuntu liveCD iso that was built with Xastir on
it...in the menu under the first option (System or something?), there was an
option to install.

That's how I do it, and I use a bit of Windows software, GPS Utility
(www.gpsu.co.uk) to generate the shape files. GPSU is designed primarily to
manage waypoints/tracks for a GPS unit, but it imports and exports a lot of
formats, one of which happens to be shapefiles. I had to write my dbfawk

The answer is actually yes. The live CD's of the major distro's such

launches the installer. Once installed, Xastir is there along with
