[Xastir] TinyTrak4

2010-03-15 Thread Michael Lewis
Does it work with Xastir? My laptop is a tablet pc with a tilt/swivel
screen however it has no serial port so I have a usb to serial cable and
was just curious if I could use this.

Getting a little OT now, but I have to ask. Where did you get a Java
virtual machine for ARM? Sun only distributes Java for Linux Intel,
Windows, and Solaris. Maybe running it thru GCJ?

Sun's is not the only JVM available. I am using OpenJDK, which is in the
Ubuntu repositories for the SheevaPlug.

I have xastir up and running on Ubuntu 9.10 but having problems setting up a
radio to RF,trying to set up a Alinco DR-135 TP or a Kenwood TM-D700A can't get
the program to see either radio. This is the only thing keeping me from using
Linux full time.Trying to get away from Micro$oft.

How are you connecting your radio to the computer? Through a USB-Serial
adapter? How are you setting up your interface in Xastir?

The Kenwood is easy to get working, once you know what serial port it's
hooked up to. Open the interface control menu, select Serial TNC with GPS on
AUX port, tell it the serial port device (e.g. /dev/ttyS0 or /dev/ttyUSB0 or
whatever), set the baud rate (should be 9600 for the D700), choose
8,N,1 for port style, and use tnc-startup.d700 and tnc-stop.d700 for
TNC setup and shutdown filenames, respectively. Should Just Work, and
the D700 should switch to PKT mode when you start up the interface in Xastir.

If you're already doing that, what is happening that tells you the program
can't see the radio?

Just a suggestion..as I am a noob. Steve kd5mkv
