In past years at the Lincoln Marathon we have had bicycle hams shadowing the
lead runners and one of our club members provided QRP APRS trackers for the
bikes. It worked pretty well but you do need good digipeater coverage of the
entire course.

We've used APRS to track a "caboose" cyclist in a triathlon. The job of
the cyclist is to stay behind the very last competitor so that we know
(1) that we haven't lost track of any cyclists and (2) we have some idea
od when and where roads can be reopened or traffic restrictions removed.

Would you elaborate on how this task would be accomplished? Or are you
exploring being able to track someone in the field separate from
everybody else? Put a tracker on the runner? On a chase vehicle for a
runner?
