[XFree86] Does XFree86 work with Chips 65545?

Hi, I'm new to XFree86 and am trying to get it to work with a Chips Technology 65545. According to the documentation it should work, but when I do startx it just goes to a blank screen. I have to cycle power on my machine to get out of it. Is there anyone out there who's been able to get
