Hi ( i?m spanish native so excuse my english ) Well i have the same problem with Suse 8.2 and the reason is in the driver for the video S3 prosavage DDR, I now two solutions: 1. Fast: Download the driver from: http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html and a) make a backup copy of the existing savage driver in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/
b) unpack the archive and copy the driver (savage_drv.o) to /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/ c) run sax2 to configure XFree ( you must download the driver for your Xfree version ) d) sometime you must open /etc/X11/XF86Config find the "Device" section and add the following line Option "UseBIOS" "no" With this solution you don?t have 3D acceleration 2. Best: I now for sure that there is better patch for Red hat 7.2, you can find it in the same web of the other driver ( http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html) it?s only work with xfree 4.2.0 but some people say it?s work perfect. With this solution you will have 3D ACELLERATION So that?s all i hope this could help you. atte.
