 Well to clear it up:
=20
 OS: Linux Debian Woody
=20
 Version: XMailserver 1.17

Did you try 1.17 ? Currently xmail last release is 1.21 ...
And especialy last versions give options to log filters execution

..
..
I'm stuck now with the problem, that I can't find my logfiles... in=20
other installations I found my log under MailRoot/logs where=20
 I right now=20
 don't find a file.

This is the corret place ...
=20
Any help on how to spawn or configure the server to write logs??

Review xmail CMDLINE parameters to turn on various logs
Remember that only v1.21 have -Qg option for filters logs

2005-04-12 Thread Tiziano Bettio
Ok:

Installed Version 1.21

Enabled log for filters

still it's not working:

log entry for my test email look like that:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] 62.2.213.126
213.180.164.242 2005-04-12 11:55:28 in 0
0 /usr/bin/python

I tried also writing it from an external account where the same log
entry with another mailadr showed up.

I haven't found any definitions how this logfile is written, thou most
of it is rather clear. I don't get what the 2 numbers 0, 0 mean.

Any link or explanation?

thx tc

When I try the same address from my Yahoo account the message gets through

I've tried several options including changing the helo response from our

Nice .edu, you'd rather not send your kids there, especially to that RFC

 below?

Well, if port 25 was temporarly blocked ahead of you, this might explain
the blackout.

The blackout was only in smtp logging, not in mail processing. Mail was
sent and received via smtp, filters were run on these mails, there is track
of this in filters and smail logs (and in mail headers), no track in smtp
log. From what I see, the only things I can think of so far are:

1) security breach: a hacker - or myself during sleep typing - deleting
some lines from smtp-20050412000 ;-)
2) some process temporarily preventing XMail from writing to the above
file, without XMail or the OS complaining in any way ...
3) weird, weird bug?

No comment about 1) ... but do 2) or 3) make sense? A fourth scenario?

Ciao, Francesco

[xmail] Re: HELP!!!!!

2005-04-12 Thread Tracy
Did you follow the link provided? It should give you some idea of why your
mail was rejected.

Assuming that the IP address in the rejection message is the same as the
one from which your mail was sent, it would appear that the IP address is
listed in the DUL blocklist (DUL = Dial Up Listings). This is a blocklist
which lists IP address ranges (normally provided by ISPs) that are used for
dial-up connections, or are listed as dynamically assigned addresses.

Probably the easiest solution is to smarthost your mail through your ISP's
mail server. See recent posts to the list (or check the Xmail
documentation) for information on how to do this.

Why I configured Xmail in wrong mode?

What can I do?

I use Xmail 1.18 on linux.

Thank you very much for the help.

My smptrelay.tab is:
127.0.0.1 255.0.0.0
80.19.15X.XXX 255.255.255.248

The 80.19.15X.XXX is a different IP from the mail server. This is the
intranet IP.

Then I guess you are sending from dialup/dynamic IP. Many mailservers
will block your IP. Follow Tracy's instructions.
