Chaps, I found a workaround for this.
Indeed, XMCrypt does not like symbols when entering a password. My system is an old Pentium @150MHz, compqa ProSignia (_very_ old). with slackware linux v.9.0 I think and Xmail v.1.17. Just to let you know. Oh! yes !
