That looks like radeonfb, which conflicts with radeon KMS. You can
disable it at runtime by passing video=radeonfb:off on the kernel
command line, or at build time by disabling CONFIG_FB_RADEON.

Windows, I couldn't reproduce any of the issues I've seen in Unity.
In Gnome Classic without effects, I couldn't reproduce it too.
So it seems to be 'just' a Mesa problem. Might be worth trying current
mesa Git.

Note that ServerLayout != MonitorLayout, and ServerLayout should only be
necessary if multiple "Device" /
y of them for timing purposes, so it falls back to
a 1 Hz timer for presentation.
Potential workarounds:
Disable DRI3.
Force-enable the laptop's internal output while the lid is closed, e.g.
using xrandr.

Static linking requires linking all of libX11's dependencies statically
as well.
pkg-config --libs --static x11
should print the linker flags needed for that.
