When you post to a Mailman list from a GMail account, Google *helpfully*
suppresses the redundent (?) e-mail. This is a feature, not a bug (TM) :-)

Test email (was: Stuck on Config Setup with IBM x3650 and CentOS7 )

2017-10-23 Thread Benjammin2068
I'm not getting list mails to my gmail account for some reason.. I may end up
switching email accounts if I don't see this email come through.

My previous post (Stuck on Config Setup with IBM x3650 and CentOS7)
 was replied to but
I never got any emails except the normal subscribe messages. (boo)

(thanks Adam -- BTW the "power outage" was a UPS battery going dead while the
power company was changing a meter. Not a storm. the video card works. I can
see the startup splash... I never get a gnome login.)

p.s. I saw the other post from this month with RHEL 7.4 and I think I'm having
the same problem since it's the same ATI/ES1000 series card.)

The log given here shows X starting up normally, and several clients
connecting, so whatever the problem is here it probably isn't X. From
runlevel 3 you can start the X server manually with 'X -retro' to see
if the classic root weave "test pattern" works. If it does work, then
something in the Gnome session is failing to initialize properly; if it
doesn't work then the power outage may have fried the video card.

Stuck on Config Setup with IBM x3650 and CentOS7

2017-10-17 Thread Benjammin2068
Hey all,

I've been playing with an old x3650 and although video has been a little
spotty, I thought it worked itself out.

The server has a Radeon graphics on board (see included Xorg.0.log) with VGA to
the back panel and the DVI apparently goes to the RSA (remote access) host so
it can be digitized and presented remotely.

Yesterday I had an unplanned power outage (batteries in UPS died during outage)
-- now the local video doesn't seem to boot up anymore (no Gnome Desktop).

Should I be hand writing a config? if so, I need a little help dealing with the
peculiarities of the video arrangement.

Thanks,

 -Ben
