Yes. That is what I do. Compile next and run it from its directory. You
can rename the binary or use an alias and run it. the files should be
binary compatible between both. If not, we have done something bad. the
only thing to worry about it is that configurations in xournal-next not
available in xournal will disappear the next time you run xournal.
I run -next all the time, so I am concerned that it is error free. Maybe
at some point we will start tagging some commits more stable than others.
