Capacity Scheduler webpage and REST API not showing correct number of pending
 applications

 Key: YARN-473
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-473
 Project: Hadoop YARN
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: capacityscheduler
Affects Versions: 0.23.6
Reporter: Kendall Thrapp
  Labels: usability

 The Capacity Scheduler REST API
 (http://hadoop.apache.org/docs/r0.23.6/hadoop-yarn/hadoop-yarn-site/ResourceManagerRest.html#Cluster_Scheduler_API)
is not returning the correct number of pending applications.
numPendingApplications is almost always zero, even if there are dozens of
 pending apps.
In investigating this, I discovered that the Resource Manager's Scheduler
webpage is also showing an incorrect but different number of pending
applications. For example, the cluster I'm looking at right now currently
has 15 applications in the ACCEPTED state, but the Cluster Metrics table near
the top of the page says there are only 2 pending apps. The REST API says
 there are zero pending apps.

Hmm. It would not be impossible to ask for one container, launch it, then
the rest of the graph tasks so that first one can be set up to know its
first. I think the whole task 0 thing is old in Giraph and could be
handled another way by now. I will look into it. It didn't make a lot of
sense when that approach worked to start with, but it worked right away so
I went with it ;)

In case of reservcations, etc - AppMasters may not get container id 1. We
likely need additional info in the CLC / tokens indicating whether a
container is an AM or not.

Hitesh Shah updated YARN-196:

Summary: Nodemanager should be more robust in handling connection failure
to ResourceManager when a cluster is started (was: Nodemanager if started
before starting Resource manager is getting shutdown. But if both RM and NM are
started and then after if RM is going down,NM is retrying for the RM.)

Committed to branch-2 and trunk. Thanks Xuan for addressing the numerous review
comments and being so patient. I have also filed a related jira regarding
similar handling of connection loss after the NM is up.

jian he commented on YARN-472:

The approach used is to add a separate JobStateInternal.REBOOT to distinguish
from the JobStateInternal.ERROR, such that, when the job is shutdown it will
not delete the staging dir if its on JobStateInternal.REBOOT its not the last
retry

MR app master deletes staging dir when sent a reboot command from the RM

 Key: YARN-472
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-472
 Project: Hadoop YARN
  Issue Type: Sub-task
  Components: resourcemanager
Reporter: jian he
Assignee: jian he

If the RM is restarted when the MR job is running, then it sends a reboot
command to the job. The job ends up deleting the staging dir and that causes
 the next attempt to fail.

[jira] [Created] (YARN-481) Add AM Host and RPC Port to ApplicationCLI Status Output

2013-03-15 Thread Chris Riccomini (JIRA)
Chris Riccomini created YARN-481:

Summary: Add AM Host and RPC Port to ApplicationCLI Status Output
 Key: YARN-481
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-481
 Project: Hadoop YARN
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: client
Affects Versions: 0.23.6, 2.0.3-alpha
Reporter: Chris Riccomini

Hey Guys,

I noticed that the ApplicationCLI is just randomly not printing some of the
values in the ApplicationReport. I've added the getHost and getRpcPort. These
are useful for me, since I want to make an RPC call to the AM (not the tracker
call).

Thanks!
Chris

It's unclear to me from reading the javadoc exactly what asks means when
the AM sends a heartbeat to the RM. Is the AM supposed to send a list of all
resources that it is waiting for? Or just inform the RM about new ones that
 it wants?
