Re: [delicious-discuss] inbox delays?
Hi Joshua,IMO this shift towards tag subscriptions is the product of the UI. Currently there is no other way to subscribe to anything, than going to your inbox and filling out TWO input fields. I think this is the main cause for the inballance. Let me explain. I'm only subscribing to tags of specific users, because I want to get very little, but very good tags. The scenario is usually the following:* link on the front page (yes, I check it quite frequently ... about 10 - 20 times a day) * check out what it refers to* if it's good bookmark it too* go back to the front page and examine that user's tags and explore the ones, that match my interests* so I have to go to 'inbox' - edit inbox - ouch I forgot to remember the user's name - back button 2x - copy username to clipboard, remember the tag name - 'inbox' - edit inbox - paste username and type tag So IMO the problem why people don't really subscribe user/tag intersections is the UI - there is NO 'subscribe this' link on the /user/tagname page.and yes, this is a feature request :)keep up the good work Petr Stedry2006/3/27, Joshua Schachter [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Yeah, the Inbox server is really, really far behind. I put some tweaks in last night and am waiting to see if it is running faster or not. The large problem is that there's a bunch of people who have subscribed to very popular tags (such as web) and get tens of thousands of items in their inbox every day, which they never really get to. In the future I'm going to split up personal subscriptions and tag subscriptions and handle them hopefully. It's pretty odd, there's a very bistable distribution of use - some people subscribe to tags, some subscribe to people, but very few people do a mix. [delicious-discuss] Inbox and antisocial users
Hello. Does the antisocial feature work on the inbox yet? There is a user (ukplumber1) who is tag spamming in a way that ends up in my inbox and it is starting to get really annoying. [delicious-discuss] Inbox filtering
I've noticed that bookmarks from people I've been putting in my antisocial list are still being added to my inbox. I can understand previously existing bookmarks still showing up from those users, but even newly created bookmarks from those users are being placed in my inbox. The help text for antisocial indicates the filtering only happens on the home page and the for page. Isn't the inbox something that should be filtered out? Also, would it be at all possible to make it any easier to add people to the antisocial list? we're getting close to moving a bunch of stuff to the yahoo datacenters. when i recreate the inbox on the new machine, i can make it so that a url can show up your inbox only a single time. i think this would a) be faster on our end, b) be nicer on the user end, but c) prevent us from someday doing inbox popularity (which is probably a long way off) any thoughts? -- joshua schachter [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ discuss mailing list discuss@del.icio.us http://lists.del.icio.us/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[delicious-discuss] Inbox/For indicator suggestion
Title: Inbox/For indicator suggestion Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I had a thought regarding the inbox and for:. Is it possible to have some type of indicator to let you know when there are new items in your inbox/for? As a workflow, it's a bit annoying to remember to check every few hours in the for and inbox to see if there is anything new. An ideal, and minimalist approach would be something like: Your bookmarks | inbox(3) | for(12) | post As the top bar. Meaning 3 new un-visited entries in your inbox, and 12 new bookmarks tagged for: you. This would really be helpful in my situation as we use delicious to share bookmarks among a group of people, and I subscribe to the other users. I guess it would be possible to use RSS to handle this, but it would really be nice to be able to use it plainly through an html interface on any machine without need for RSS setup. Thanks! I'm in the both camp, and was drowning, until I discovered what the edit inbox function did, essentially create sub-folders of the inbox that can be inspected individually. Currently I have sub-inboxes named People Acquaintances and Wireless for example. This has made the inbox infinitely more useful... I'd still appreciate the provenance of a link, IE, where, which subscription(s) it came from, but my vote would definitely be to retain it. Even if there is a person method down the track, I hope inbox subscription to a userid is retained. We've got a replacement for subscribing to people coming soon. I'm not sure what to do about subscribing to tags (especially since frequently folks will subscribe to a stack of popular tags, get tens of thousands of items in their inbox daily and never read it at all.) Perhaps updating the inbox could be correlated to the number of visits it receives? We'll probably rename it to subscriptions or nuke it entirely, or something. I would be very cautious about removing functionality, unless it is critical to do so, despite acknowledging the beta status of the service, we have developed habits around the existing facilities. J, Actually I subscribe to both specific users and to specific tags. The downside to subscribing to specific tags is that I'm vulnerable to spam when people like: http://del.icio.us/dngrand/ decide to tag their 4 bookmarks with hundreds of tags. Duplicate collapsing would be very useful especially if I can then sort my inbox according to popularity against time -- this lets me find out what's the most popular link amongst the people I'm subscribed to today/this week/etc. On 10/24/05, joshua schachter [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This happens with me.
