I tried sysctl -w kernel.powersave-nap = 1, and, unfortunately, it didn't help. The option with patching the kernel with an older version didn't seem worth to me considering the potential to break other functionality of the kernel. The problem was solved by installing Debian 6.0.6 (squeeze) for p

When my dual 2.0 G5 tower was still alive (died w/memory controller problem in '11) I never noticed fan problems except with the first several G5 releases from YDL. I had YDL6 (6.1 I *think*) on it last and it was ok. The initial releases when the G5 first came out had zero fan control, and the b

sysctl -w kernel.powersave-nap = 1 will quiet the fans down. You can put it in /etc/sysctl.conf to preserve the setting across boots. On Tue, 2012-11-13 at 12:28 -0500, Dimitar Georgievski wrote: > Hi, > > > I just installed YDL on my Power G5 1.8 GHz and the fan is out of > control. It produce

Hi Dimitar! As you may know YDL was originally created by Terra Soft Solutions (TSS), which was absorbed or bought by Fixstars. Long story short, provided great support for all versions of YDL, which was continued by Fixstars, for some years. Official support for YDL ended quite some years ago (

What you're describing is the fan running at full speed - which you can Replicate by booting the Mac into the command line and running fsck. There's likely a software patch that addresses this directly. Chris On Nov 13, 2012, at 2:46 PM, Hal Martin wrote: > He mentioned that it's a "Power G

He mentioned that it's a "Power G5 1.8GHz" which would be a G5 desktop, not a PowerBook. I don't recall if fan speed control was ever fully functional on the G5 tower. IIRC only Apple portables had power management facilities in the kernel. -Hal Am 13.11.2012 14:42 schrieb "Robert T. Drury" : >

I gained control of the fan but there was nothing really I could do with that except smooth out the fan start/stop, which really wasn't enough.  You need the fan to run as set at the factory to control the temperature, so if the fan is too loud, look for replacement fans that are quieter.  I'm

Hi, I just installed YDL on my Power G5 1.8 GHz and the fan is out of control. It produces so much noise that after couple of minutes I have to shut down the computer. Is there any fix for this issue? I noticed on older posts in the forums users have experienced similar issues in the past. From t
