When you first flip the rear power switch on: Have you tried holding the
front power button down for several seconds until you get multiple beeps and
then releasing? This normally sets video mode to default (which should
support low-res composite).

Thank you for your reply. However I am still encountering the problem
that when I turn the PS3 on the screen is a blank blue screen. I have
never seen a proper PS3 screen anywhere thus far and I am not sure
what to do to achieve this.
