Re: Quick Input Panel - Autofill

2007-12-12 Thread Mark Hessman
I've just read the archive on this one and partially answered the
second question I posted a couple of hours ago.

I understand the reason behind this feature -- but I would VERY MUCH
like some kind of way to say I summoned the Quick Input panel in
error and don't want to put this material into Yojimbo at all, so
please don't preserve it when I dismiss the panel. That happens
significantly more often than wanting to stitch together a Yojimbo
doc from multiple clipboard items.

Thanks,
Mark

ok Steve, Sebastian,
thanks, the Command-Shift-A keyboard shortcut makes it more optimal
for me!

I've been using Yojimbo since about the beginning and didn't know this
one! Thanks!

When I read this the first thing that occurred to me was a keyboard
shortcut (since that's most likely how you would summon the QIP).

ESC usually makes it go away. I'd think either SHIFT+ ESC or ALT+ESC
would be a good Dismiss With Prejudice key combo

Quick Input Panel - Autofill

2007-12-10 Thread Gert van Oss

hi all,

how is it that every time I select and copy some text and then use the
Quick Input Panel via F8 that I always have a text appearing that
says:

Your previous information has been preserved.
Click Autofill to import the new clipboard contents.

The only way to make it disappear is by clicking the Autofill indeed
by I would like to avoid having to leave my hands from the keyboard.

Did I miss something, is there an easy solution?

tia,

Gert

This is a feature: Once you open the Quick Input Panel it will fill in
what's currently in the clipboard. If you don't submit (dismiss the
panel without clicking create) it won't discard what was previously
filled in once you go back to the panel. But you might have copied
something else to the clipboard in the meantime. That's the message.

So, if this really happens _every_ time as you said, it's a bug
indeed. But I doubt it happens _every_ time.

Sebastian answered this a moment ago. I'd also add that this is
a useful feature if you are creating a complex record (like a
password) by copying pieces one at a time, and pasting.

If you do want to click the Autofill button, Command-Shift-A is
the keyboard equivalent (just like Safari).

Quick Input Panel

2007-11-02 Thread Robert Occhialini Jr.
I read through this list's charter, and I think I am staying within
bounds by starting this conversation. If I am not inbounds, I
apologize.

I have owned Yojimbo since it's release, but adopted it very slowly.
Iit has now basically become the main application I use to manage
transient information on my primary work computer. (I use Devonthink
to manage long term storage of information.) The main reason that
Yojimbo won for the day to day use was the tagging infrastructure.
However, the way things are currently set up, I typically have
information that I have added during the course of the day, and then
have to go through all the new stuff and tag it.

I would love it if the quick input dock also included tag entry. It
would save me an extra step on literally every piece of textual
information that I enter into Yojimbo. I understand that with things
like Web archives and pdf's I would still have to do step two.

A second addition that would be very helpful to me, personally, would
be the ability to have tags added to items automatically by placing
them in a collection.

I know that Bare Bones does not discuss future versions, features of
future versions etc. I am, however, curious if other users think
these suggestions make sense, or if I am using the app in a different
manner than others. My use is totally dependent on the tagging
infrastructure.

Thanks

Robert Occhialini

The Quick Input panel (the small window in the upper right,
usually accessed through F8) does support tagging.

The Drop Dock (the tab to the right) currently does not.
Coincidentally, this morning Jim and I were discussing how to
make tagging work for the Drop Dock. We've got some ideas, but
they won't be fully baked for awhile.

In the meantime, I use a script I posted a couple months ago:
