Iraq: double bombing kills 16 in Baghdad

Associated Press Writer= BAGHDAD (AP) - Iraqi police and hospital officials say
a double bombing targeting police recruits in Baghdad has killed 16 people and
wounded 45.
A police officer says a car parked near a police academy exploded in a mainly
Shiite area in northern Baghdad. He says a suicide bomber then blew himself up
as police and recruits gathered at the site.
The policeman and hospital officials have given the casualty toll on condition
of anonymity because they're not authorized to release the information.

BAGHDAD (AP) â An Iraqi military spokesman says a senior Defense Ministry
official has been wounded in a roadside bomb attack that killed one of his
bodyguards.
The spokesman, Maj. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, says the blast occurred Monday in
the Sulaikh neighborhood in northern Baghdad.
The wounded official, Maj. Gen. Mudhir al-Mola, is in charge of affairs related
to the Sunni guards known as Sons of Iraq who have joined forces with U.S.
troops against al-Qaida in Iraq.
The move is considered a key factor in the overall decline in Iraq violence.
The Shiite-led government assumed responsibility for the Sunnis in Baghdad this
fall.
