Bomb Threat Against Novotel Hotel in Surakarta Saturday, 15 November, 2008 | 15:05 WIB TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Novotel Hotel in Surakarta in Central Java received a bomb threat on Saturday as the city is going to host an international tennis tournament. Surakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Syukrani said the threat was received by phone at about 8 AM prompting the hotel to evacuate its guests. The adjoining Ibis hotel also evacuated its guests. Police searched both hotels located on Jl Gajah Mada and after two hours said no explosives were found. Police also cordoned the area and blocked the street in front of the hotels and later deployed around 100 personnels in the area as several participants of Solo Junior Open organized by the International Tennis Federation were staying at the hotels. One staff at the Novotel said 127 out of 141 rooms in the hotels were occupied. The tournament will be played from 17-23 November in the city. One Australian team said they will not spend more time than necessary in the city. The threat was the latest in series of bomb and security scares in teh country starting November 9th on the day the three Bali bombers were executed. The first Novotel chain in the country threatened to be exploded was that in Semarang the capital city of Central Java. Ahmad Rafiq
