RE: [Zappa-List] NTSC

Id
like to add that Japan and Canada also use NTSC. Not sure about China. A full
list can be found here for all formats.

http://www.high-techproductions.com/ntsc.htm

The important
thing to know is that most DVD players will play both PAL and NTSC. My little
cheapy has a three position toggle button on the remote. By default its
output is in the same format as the disc. I can push it once and the output is
NTSC regardless of the discs format. Push it again and the output is PAL regardless
of the discs format. It does an on the fly conversion to whatever format the TV
can use and it looks perfect. Doing a conversion between the formats on a PC usually
causes a little loss of quality so a player like mine is the way to go with
video footage (DVDs) from over seas. I think I only paid $40 for it. When
playing a disc on the PC NTSC vs PAL isnt an issue. It only comes into
play with a television.

Thanks Jim,

Yes this new version is really a big improvement on the previous
one, for many reasons. And for those doing Torrents the flac function
is great !
It doesn't seem to have a video editor, but I just found a way to
detect what standard a file is. There's an export function, and it
says the standard in the save as dialog box. So to get the
info I just have to click on Export, and then I cancel. A little
akward but it works !
Thanks again !
A.

Does
Toast have a video file editor? My Roxio for windows has a nice video
editor called Videowave. When I drop in an mpeg file it makes all the
details available including PAL or NTSC format as well as resolution
total time and file size. It also has the ability to convert one to
the other but there is usually a slight quality loss. I think the new
Toast 7 might have this. I know it has the DivX to DVD converter and
the flac support like the windows version. Probably any free or
shareware video editor you might find for Mac would be able to tell
you the stats for each file though. I understand that such programs
are now available for Mac running OS X.

Can you get Toast free? If so, what's the

also, does anyone know where you can get free drive
partition software?

I think I must have an older version of Toast, because it
doesn't say that in export, but if you drag a file into the main window and
click "Edit" it give Pal and NTSC info there.

That's really strange, because when I click Edit it gives some info

standard...

It's another standard/medium yet again,
but for digital transmission between computers rather than through the
air to an ariel and a domestic TV. It would require either a pc or a
domestic player able to read it.

Thanks guys ! The only thing is : If I put multiple mpeg files
into Toast, it says I can't burn PAL NTSC together on the same
disc, but I didn't find any mean of knowing wich ones are NTSC and
which ones are PAL. So I would like to be able to determine that. See
