I use the software that came with my capture card. It makes nice mpeg2 files
that I author with TMPGEnc DVD Author (TDA). TDA is way better than Nero for
authoring DVD because it doesnt re encode or re render the original mpeg
files. It comes with a free 30 day trial if you want to try it.

What kind of capture card are you using?
As for PAL to NTSC conversion I recommend against it. For much less money
than it costs for software that does a good job of it you can buy a player
that will play PAL. About $30 at Walmart. There's even a chance that the
player you have now can do it. Many players come set to output PAL when
playing a PAL disc but an adjustment in the setup screen can tell them to
output NTSC regardless of the disc's format.

Subject: [Zappa-List] Need Help in Converting Video to DVD
I'm pretty new to converting VHS to DVD so I need some insight...
I'm curious to know what programs you guys use to capture and burn.
Are there any settings that I should pay attention to?
Is it possible to capture from a VHS and burn to a DVD without any
degeneration like you get with VHS to VHS?
Lastly, how do you convert a PAL DVD to NTSC DVD? I used Nero and it
didn't work right - the converted DVD looked terrible and jumped
around when I played it on the DVD player. I haven't been impressed
with Nero so far...so how you do all do it?
Thanks for any help - any other info would be great!
