Our drive is a dvd\cdrom drive. So the wife says.
I'll have to check with her on this.

Confusion...

Um.. you said CD-rom? Did you mean
DVD-ROM? Is it a VCD? Ether way DVDShrink will only work with a DVD-ROM drive.

  Jim,

Yes, my cdrom drive *is* in fact reading other
discs and burning to them without a problem.

Thanks for the assist, I'll try it.

  Mr. Skull

If you
haven't tried DVDShrink it might work. If it won't read them I'd suspect
hardware problems. DVDShrink is a free download but a very nice DVD riper.
It creates a VIDEO_TS folder on the hard drive that Nero can defiantly burn.
Is your drive reading other DVDs ok?

Unless it's a combo drive that plays
and records CD but only plays DVD. Very common for the last few years. Still it
should at least play them. For everyone that doesn't have a DVD burner and may
not know it the price of them has dropped dramatically. A 4.7Gb drive (if you
can still find one) can be had for about $40. Even the newer 8Gb drives are down
around $60 USD now. And that's for one that burns multiple format and CD as
well. Usually you can just replace your CD burner with one for the easiest
installation.

[Zappa-List] Saturday Night live and Mudd Club US Vine update

2005-05-26 Thread mr. and mrs. skull

Group,

I received the discs from Jack Simpson last week. I
ordinarily would have already copied and sent them on, but I have been having
problems getting the discs copied. Nothing
I do seems to work. My drive will not acknowledge
them at all. I've tried everything I can think of, but to no avail. And I'm
having no problems with any other discs. But I will have to give up and send
them on now unless someone has any clever ideas.

if there are no marks or crackson the play
side of the discs then maybe your have a pal v's ntsc issue. maybe you could
upgrade your software if that is the case since most/all current dvd burning
software will not have a problem.
cant think of anything else off hand.

If you've never burned a VIDEO_TS
folder with Nero here are the Dime instructions given out every few days for
people that have downloaded there first VIDEO_TS folder (DVD).

BURNING A DOWNLOADED DVD IN
NEROSince (I think) V5, Nero has included DVD
burning and creation in it's suiteof programs. If all you want to do is burn
an exact copy of what you'vedownloaded, then you need to go to the Nero
Burning Rom part of theprogram-this is the 'classic' Nero interface which
has remained pretty muchthe same for years now (Other than having DVD
burning added to it). It'susually found in
StartprogramsNero. In mine it's under Nero 6 UltraVersion,
yours will be whatever version of the program you've got, but itwill be
there. When you do get there, a wizard will open-make sure DVD isselected
them choose 'DVD Video'A possible alternate way to get to this part of
the suite is from the NeroSmart Start desktop logo, choose DVD, then hit the
Photo and Video icon andchoose 'Burn DVD-Video Files'Whichever
method you've use so far, you will now see a 4 pane window-in thesecond pane
you will see two red folders, audio_ts and video_ts-click on thevideo_ts
one. Now, in pane 3 navigate to wherever on your hard drive the DVD
youdownloaded is stored, and click on it so it opens up in panel 4. You
shouldsee audio_ts and video_ts folders again (It's possible that no audio_tsfolder will be there). Click on the video_ts folder, highlight ALL the filesin there and
drag them across to pane 2.Now all you need to do is stick a blank disc
in, and hit the 'Burn' iconalong the top and your DVD will start to
burn. That's it, really!! What you don't want to do is use Nerovision Expressunless you specifically want to change
the structure of the disc. This willbe a long, drawn out process that will
result in the footage probably beingre-encoded, and you will lose the menu's.Hope that helps
