My favorite coffeehouse changed to a linksys router, and this is all I get, HAVING to specify the SSID, with my laptop's default 11mb/s mode
wlan0 802.11b/g NIC ESSID:"Cool Coffee" Mode:Managed Frequency=2.417 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated Bit Rate:1 Mb/s Retry:off RTS thr=2432 B Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:off Link Quality=32/100 Signal level=13/100 Noise level=0/100 Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:120 Tx excessive retries:1824 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 too low to use dhclient or anything(but it works in windows) But, if I plug in my usb 2.0 pcmcia card and my wireless device into that, it works wlan0 802.11b/g NIC ESSID:"Cool Coffee" Mode:Managed Frequency=2.432 GHz Access Point: 00:16:B6:67:5F:A3 Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Retry:off RTS thr=2432 B Fragment thr:off Power Management:off Link Quality=92/100 Signal level=73/100 Noise level=0/100 Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:9 Tx excessive retries:396 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 I'd rather not have to do use the usb 2.0 pcmcia adapter everytime I come to this coffeehouse. Any ideas how to just use it at the 11mb/s mode? It works in windows, even though windows seems to report it as 54mb/s? ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by xPML, a groundbreaking scripting language that extends applications into web and mobile media.
