Re: [zd1211-devs] zd1211 for mandriva 2007 i586 doesn' t work
Paolo- I have just purchased a Belkin F5D7050 with the ZD1211B chip, and I too have Mandriva 2007 with a 2.6.17-5mdv kernel. My approach for getting my 802.11G USB component to work was: 1. Read and review everything at: A. http://opensource.bureau-cornavin.com/belkin/index.html a Belkin-Linux reference regarding the ZD1211B chipset, B. most importantly at: http://zd1211.ath.cx/wiki/ a wiki for the ZyDAS ZD1211 802.11b/g USB WLAN chipset Linux drivers 2. Downloaded the VENDOR-BASED community driver: A. Great overview of driver at: http://zd1211.ath.cx/wiki/VendorBasedDriver the Vendor-Based driver variant reference - this is the driver appropriate for kernels earlier than 2.6.18, which Mandriva 2007 definitely is (2.6.17) B. Download page is at: http://zd1211.ath.cx/download/ for the zd1211 Vendor-based drivers - initially downloaded the latest version- r85; this compiled OK, but did NOT work with the modprobe and Mandriva's kernel variant 2.6.17-5. Determined this by inability to activate network (wlan0 up) and careful review of dmesg log - then downloaded the r83 version. Compiled, installed and activated according to instructions from 1.A reference above. This version WORKS! with the Mandriva kernel 2.6.17-5 After additional network setup: SSID, WEP key, etc. via the Mandriva Control Center (MCC), or you can do directly via ifconfig- this component is now activated every boot with NO issues/errors, and performs OK. Only remaining item I'm investigating is the performance-throughput differences between my Windows XP environment and the Linux-Mandriva one on this same USB adapter. Hope this helps...
