Here is a simple fix: Open a terminal and execute this command: rm -rf ~/.local/share/zeitgeist This will delete the database that zeigeist-fst has made so far. Then you must(*) restart your PC and it will use 4.9 MB :) If you don't, the dash search will return wrong results. Same problem here. zeitgeist is eating 280MB of ram. After zeitgeist-daemon --replace it drops to 1,2 MB, but a single search in the dash makes it spike to the previous levels. I have the same problem (occupying about 700MB of ram in my case) with fully updated amd64 ubuntu 12.10 (upgraded 12.04 on release) . Yeah we are discussing the issue with Ubuntu1 so we can fix it. How much does your zeitgeist-daemon process require? How big was your DB before you sent it over...
