Group,

A few weeks ago, the topic of near-death experience was gone into briefly here,
and real-life experience was recommended. It was a good thread.

Today I heard an interview on radio with an MD very active in the field of
resuscitation and study of the dying brain.

For reasons he explains very clearly and interestingly, he prefers to call such
experiences "After Death" experiences. No, he does not invoke religion or a
deistic afterlife, but tells the scientific reasons for naming the experiences
this. Let him speak for himself if you would like. You can hear the interview
online.

I learned a few things from him in the interview. Brain cells live as long as
eight hours after cardiac arrest, for example. And people can be "brought
back" *VERY* long after cardiac arrest, now.

Terry Gross interviewed Dr. Parnia on her show "Fresh Air", which she's been
producing for WHYY, Philadelphia, and NPR, for over 25 years. She is a great
interviewer, and she asks very good questions for us in this interview. The
doctor is very articulate: not only smart, but a gifted communicator. He's
also got a new book out, and the title is given in the interview.

Terry's guest is Dr. Sam Parnia, Critical Care Doctor, and Director of
Resuscitation Research at SUNY -- Stony Brook, Medical Center (one of my Alma
Maters).

The interview can be heard at the link below:

Drop it on the Victrola?

"Stayin' Alive",

and you too, I hope,
