I didn't start until my 20s. Sometimes I play the dangerous "what if" game of wondering what things would be like for me if I had discovered zazen as a child. No use fretting about myself now, but it is great that you want to get your kids started. I don't think there is any minimum. You could just have them sit with you for 10 minutes and then do some walking meditation. I wouldn't expect too much from walking meditation. They will probably be all over the place! The monastery I attend for retreats has a Zen Kids program: http://www.mro.org/zmm/visitingzmm/youthprograms.php Reading that might give you some ideas. I am willing to be you will get some interesting advice, from a resident monastic there, if you e- mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reading the description it says to e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] for information on the program. Even if you don't plan on participating (I don't know where you're located) she might be willing to help you as well. Zuisei is the one pictured there with the kids. She is great. She is extremely kind and compassionate, and yet she is a fierce zendo monitor! I bet she's great with the kids. The picture was taken pre-ordination. I saw her ordained last year and she is fully among the ranks of the bald and the beautiful now. :) A google search on "meditation for kids" turned up some interesting results that might be helpful as well.
